Lots Of Layers - Satur-YAY! 5.26.18 Featuring United We Flourish Stitched Together

Hi everyone!  Happy Satur-YAY!  It's Carissa with you here today.  I'm so glad you've stopped by today.  I'm celebrating the weekend by getting my craft on.  I have a project featuring lots of layers and the beautiful new Stitched Together United We Flourish stamp set from Waffle Flower and Essentials By Ellen.

It was my goal to create a lovely layered effect, without my card getting too bulky for mailing.  I did this by layering directly on my card base.  I also combined stamping and patterned papers in to my layering, which are great ways to add layers and not increase the bulk of your card.

The Stitched Together Stamp Set is a stamp layering stamp set.  There are several stamps that, when layered together, give you a beautiful stitched floral globe image.  I love that these stamps are easy to line up.  In fact, I didn't even have a layering guide when I stamped this and I was able to nestle these stamps right in to each other and create a beautiful layered stamped image.

I did add some dimension to my card by stacking up several plain white die cuts behind my stamped globe image.  This is a great way to add dimension and give your stamped piece a very substantial feel on the front of your card.

TIPS:

• If you struggle with certain colors, try using an embellishment, like this glittery striped washi tape or patterned paper.
• Use an emery board to smooth down rough edges when fussy cutting.
• Water-based markers are a quick, easy substitute for bonafide watercolors; all you need is a non-porous surface for a palette and a waterbrush.

Today I pulled colors from the Color Trend Palette graphic below to create a lovely holiday card with a retro vibe, using this gorgeous Waffle Flower Poinsettia Stamp set.  As I mention in the video, the imagery in this set reminds me of vintage barkcloth from the 1940's-60's, which I adore!

When working with this beautiful stamp set, I personally found it helpful to:

• Use a stamp positioning tool, such as the MISTI; the MISTI also makes it easy to achieve precise alignment and to stamp an image twice, to intensify ink colors.
• Begin with the stem, which serves as a great frame work
• Use the detail images of the stem as a reference point for aligning the leaves, and subsequently layer the poinsettia flowers, and then the petal detail image.
• Don't be afraid to try a "non-traditional" color scheme for your holiday projects--the unexpected is a refreshing change!

Hey everyone!  Happy Wednesday!  Welcome back to another day of Waffle Flower week! Today, I'm playing with these adorable sloths.  So fun, right?

First, I stamped the images using my MISTI. 

Then, I colored the images in. 

When I color Copics, I always try and use at least 2 shades.  This allows me to add dimension to my images. 

Once fully colored, I die cut the images out with the coordinating dies. 

Then, still in my MISTI, I tied twine and added my sloth images to my card front.  By keeping my card in my MISTI, I was able to use the top grid to line my images up.  I also added my sentiment this way. 

Next, I added a healthy dose of sequins. 

Finally, I topped it off with a white gel pen.

Layers of Kindness with Nina Yang

#TexturalTuesdays and Waffle Flower Crafts with Lisa

Happy #TexturalTuesday ! It's Lisa with you on the blog to share some Waffle Flower Crafts AWESOMENESS!! I've been a huge fan of Waffle Flower's since the very beginning. I just LOVE the designs that Nina has brought to Waffle Flower Crafts. I'll be showing one of the new design today that I hope you adore as much as I do.

I colored the bear Copic Markers in the following colors E51, E53, E57, and E59. I'm no pro so no detailed shots of my coloring. ;) And I did use the 0 Colorless Blender quite a bit. (Life saver!!)

These are the yellow Copic Marker that I used for the bird on the bear's head. Y11, Y21, and Y35.  (I colored a second bear and liked it better without the dots that are visible in the photo below. To me, it looked like chicken pox so I scrapped the dots.)

And, of course, Copic Marker Color R20 for the rosy cheeks.

After the bear was colored, I stamped and colored the tiny little floral bouquet. This will go in its paws after the bear is die-cut. So cute! (This will also be die-cut.)

I stamped the two floral pieces on a 4" x 4" square of cardstock using Taylored Expressions Oreo Ink using my MISTI for precision alignment.

Using waaaay too many markers to show I colored in the floral pieces. I shaded both sides using the C1 marker and blended it out with the 0 Colorless marker.

I wanted to make sure the Bear and bird wasn't sitting on a blank space. Using Spun Sugar and Spiced Marmalade Distress Inks I blended the two inks softly into the center and around the top corners.

The rest of the card came together very easily. Some twine, beautiful patterned paper, and mirrored confetti. The sentiment was stamped onto vellum using Versamark ink and heat embossed using black EP. I cut the vellum into a banner shape, put a thin strip of Matte Medium at the top and tucked it under the twine.

As usual, I like to add a few close- up photos for you to see some of the detail. :)

 

You can sure see that Wink of Stella on the bouquet, huh?! And the bears rosy cheeks are too cute.

Okay, that one I just love because you can REALLY see the colors in the flowers. So bright and happy.

Waffleflower brings us the the charming, whimsical art of Helen Dardik to us in these irresistible clear stamps! 

The first thing I wanted to do with this little cutie, is watercolor her in neon hues and give her an little interactive fun!

I am using a watercolor "resist" method by first heat embossing the images with black pigment ink and clear powder on watercolor paper.  I like this method better than stamping with Versamark + black embossing powder because I always get stray embossing flecks where I don't want them, no matter how hard I try to clean things up prior to heating.

After swiping some fluorescent hues of Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers over the top of the embossing lines, and onto the exposed areas of the watercolor paper, I blended the colors together with a small tip Pentel Aquash water brush.

These markers are water-based, and water-activated and unlike your typical "marker", they don't have hard tips but instead feature real, delicate brush bristles--wonderful for quick and easy watercoloring! Apply the color like you would apply gentle paint brush strokes and avoid using hard pressure so you do not mash them.

Her hair was colored in with Black, and I traced the outline of her face with Flesh, which makes a perfect natural skin tone.  

When using these markers to colorize, I prefer to apply the color tight to the inside edges within the embossed lines on detail images and then pull the color out with the Aquash.  However, in this instance, the images are quite bold and in some instances, solid; with these particular images, it works well to load some color directly onto the embossed lines (it will remain wet and sit on top of the embossed surfaces), and also swipe some onto the exposed areas of the paper, close to the edges of the images.

After pulling the colors and blending with the water brush, if there is any residual color sitting on top of the embossed lines, I blot it away with a dry paper towel to avoid any unwanted smears with my fingertips as I continue to work and handle the project.

 

I added an extra element of fun to this design by using an Action Wobbler--one of my favorite, quick ways to make an "interactive" card.
