Brayered Background - Floral Fantasies

BRAYER TIPS:

  • Use a piece of kitchen rubber shelf liner under your ink pad to keep it stationary on your work surface. (I couldn't find mine so my ink pads were scootching all over the place.  So annoying.)
  • Lift and roll for continuous motion when inking brayer and when applying color to project. (back & forth only inks one spot...)
  • Start off the project and roll onto the project for the smoothest application of color; roll all the way off onto the other side.
  • Grids can be helpful for masking edges evenly.
  • When changing colors of ink, roll prior ink off the brayer onto scratch paper and then load with your next color; avoids cross contamination and muddying of colors.

 

ALPHA DIE CUT ALIGNMENT TIPS:

  • Use a grid mat and washi tape to align and hold alphabet die cuts in position when mounting.

 

Those little black stars get me every time... *cheesy grin*

A Star Wars Inspired Card with Ardyth Percy-Robb

Good morning! Ardyth here with a fun card using some of the products from the March release in a way that Julie probably didn’t foresee!

ARDYTHCARDAs soon as I saw the girl with two buns, my mind jumped to a galaxy far, far away and I wondered how I could make it work. The card has two main components - the girl and the background.

I started by stamping her with Catherine Pooler Midnight, using my MISTI, on Neenah 110 lb cardstock.

ARDYTH1Then I coloured her with Copics. I ignored her sandals and coloured her feet brown, like boots.

I added some black dots to her eyes with a black Memento marker

ARDYTH2When she was finished, I used the matching die to cut her out.

ARDYTH3Next, I created her light sabre using one of the chopstick dies. I coloured it with Copics.

ARDYTH4Next, the background. I started with a 4.25 x 5.5 panel of Ranger Watercolor cardstock. I cut a circle mask from a post it note and used repositionable adhesive to hold it down.

I layered Catherine Pooler inks in blues, working from lightest to darkest, and added some dark purple and black around the edges.

Before removing the mask, I spritzed the panel with water to create ‘stars’. These inks are really vibrant and react well with water.

ARDYTH5When the panel was dry, I cut it with an Avery Elle Double-Pierced Rectangle die.

I cut a sentiment strip using the Fortune Cookie dies and blended Melon Ice and Lime Rickey on the ends of it before stamping my sentiment with Midnight ink.

ARDYTH6I used a Quickie glue pen with it’s tiny tip to glue the light sabre down and then added some StarDust Stickles for sparkle.

ARDYTH7Then I popped up the girl with foam tape, positioning her on the sentiment strip to ground her.

Stamp & Fill with Two-Step Stamp Images - Hello, Monday 02/26/2018

Sometimes you want to color something in; other times, you wish there were a quick and easy way to fill an image with color. Today I'm sharing a sneak peek of a new set I illustrated that I am especially fond of--inspired by an amazing month long trip to Japan I took last fall with my mama, where my daughter and her family live (her husband is an Air Framer for the US Navy!).

The upcoming set featured in today's video is aptly named, "Wasabi" and features outline images as well as solid "fillers" that can be used to apply color quickly to an image.  This has often been referred to as "two-step" stamping.  I share more insights in today's video.
