What's an Everyday Hero supposed to do when she can't find her ink dauber? Improvise of course! Check out how Brandi solved her crafty problem and created this adorable card with the new Everyday Hero Lady (available this Sunday, April 8th)!
I knew from the moment I designed her that I wanted to use the Everyday Hero Lady in a way that made her feel really, well, super. She might not have x-ray vision, be able to fly, or move mountains with one pinky, but she can multitask like a champion, make all her friends and family feel loved and supported, be a available at a moments notice, juggle her work, hobbies, and home life, and even when balls drop as they often do, she picks them up with grace, and tries again. In my book, being someone who shows up for life and gives a go with kindness and honesty, no matter how imperfect it all feels, that’s an everyday hero.
I kept thinking of our Everyday Hero Lady bursting out of light, a bright, happy, glorious pop of color that she shines in front of, and the minute I saw the stencil set from Honeybee Stamps, I knew I needed to use it to make that happen. Of course, as all well intended projects often do, this one hit some snags. I’d reached for my little ink dauber only to find that it was purged due to lack of use during my last office clean out. Asking myself what our hero lady would do, I went to the cupboards and search for alternatives. After trying a few methods, I found those simple cotton balls borrowed from he bathroom draw were perfect for this project.
Dabbing the cotton ball onto the ink pad and then filling in the stencil sections, I remembering watching my mother sponge paint all those walls and sweatshirts when we were little, and just when I worried I was bringing back more 1992 than I’d imagine, I pulled back the stencil to reveal the first layer and fell in love!
This, my friends, is where the second bump occurred, when I realized that in my excitement, I’d grabbed the wrong stencil and the layered idea I’d planned wasn’t going to happen that way. The daughter of a creative and resourceful Everyday Hero Lady myself, I decided not to give up, layering another color over the first, and of course, loving the result once again.
With the style now a bit different than my original vision, the yellow shirt I’d colored for my lady felt out of place, so I grabbed one of the awesome rainbow striped sheets from the Lawn Fawn paper pack and got to work. I stamped, cut, and glued my way to a colorful new top for my lady, adorning it with the simple “Kindness Matters” sentiment stamp so she can wear the words she holds so dear.
For a bit more pizazz, I used a small dot of glue to affix one of the little gems to her crown. Smaller gems fit inside the small circle, and larger ones just over, but no matter which way you go, adding a dimensional pop to her crown is just what she needs to shine a little brighter.
All that was left were a few foam adhesive dots to raise her up from the base a bit, and the “Everyday Hero” sentiment as a nod to what she brings to the table everyday.
This last step was just what I wanted to say to remind my friend who’s getting this card in the mail soon of how awesome she is.
Thanks for following along on this simple, but really fun to pull together card!
