Welcome to Day 9 of 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist. Today I've teamed up with Nichol Spohr and we're making tags inspired by the image below, using some of our favorite Mama Elephant products!
It's a yeti snowball fight in the forest! To create my tags I started with a bit of stamping and die-cutting: trees, lots of tag bases, and yetis. I did simple coloring on the yetis with Copics, creating shadow with the very-pale G0000 (it's tough to see in the pic, but coordinates great with Iced Spruce in-person).
Using Iced Spruce Distress Oxide ink, I created a background that mimicked the inspiration photo. (I still can't believe how quick and easy direct-to-paper blending is with these inks. If you've struggled with the technique using other inks, I encourage you to try it with these.) After the blended backgrounds were finished, I flicked on a bit of watered-down white paint to make it look snowy.
I didn't want to punch a hole through the tag base to tie it on a package, so I blended ink onto the top of a smaller tag and sandwiched it in between two bases to create a tab, then assembled. Finally, I popped up the yeti, the front snow drift, and one tree with dimensional adhesive.
My favorite bit of the tags are the Nuvo Drops "snowballs" (which I let dry overnight to be sure they were set). I rarely have a need for giant drops - and the bigger you make 'em, the more risk of cracking there is - but these all worked out. Score!
Here's a closer look at the snowballs - they make me pretty happy.
Here's one more look at the final result - I hope they make you giggle too!
The more I thought about the inspiration photo another idea took hold and I used it to create a little bonus tag ...Once again, I didn't have paper the exact color I wanted and reached for ink to create it. I blended Wild Honey and Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide Inks and was able to get an almost-perfect-match to the coral-colored house in the inspiration pic. (In fact, the tree was colored the same way - using regular Distress Inks over a bright green cardstock to get the dark green I wanted - it's a very handy trick. And REALLY easy when you only need a tiny bit like I did for these.)

We are super excited to welcome our friend Nichol Spohr back to the CLASSroom today and we know you are going to squeal when you see how adorable her tag is! We certainly did!!! We are always delighted by Nichol's awesome use of color and cute critters. You can see more of Nichol's fantastic work on her blog, Handcrafting Happiness.
