Hello, crafters -- Welcome to day 10 of our 12 Tags Of Christmas With A Feminine Twist! Sharon Harnist here with you today and I have the lovely Svitlana Shayevich as my guest. We will be showing you very merry & BRIGHT holiday tags featuring stamps and dies from Altenew!
Our color challenge to you is to create a merry, bold and BRIGHT tag -- Use any combination of bright colors to make a fun and festive holiday tag!
Here's an inspiration graphic for you:
Is that bright enough for you?!! :) I played around with an old favorite technique and created an alcohol ink background, using Copic Various Ink Refills on Yupo paper. Since it's the holidays, I highly recommend adding in a Metallic Mixative -- they make anything extra special! You can find pounced alcohol ink background technique tutorials in the CLASSroom here by Carly, here by Debbie, here and here by Lisa; and dropped alcohol ink background here by me.
Today I used mostly the dropping technique, after first wetting the Yupo paper with 0-Colorless Blender Solution. This will give you a longer timeframe to work with the ink. On this particular background, I believe I also moved the color around a little, using an old watercolor brush. I also added Silver Mixative:
Once my background was complete, I used a No. 8 (6-1/4" x 3-1/8") manila tag to trace the shape, cut and then back the alcohol background with Neenah 110 Lb. Solar White cardstock. Next, I created three additional Yupo papers with more "solid" combinations of the Copic Various Inks: Green (YG03, G46), Blue (BG45, BG57), and Yellow (Y15, Y17), from which I stamped, embossed, and die cut the greenery, world ornament, and sentiment. The greenery and sentiment were gold heat embossed, and the world ornament was silver heat embossed. All three elements were adhered to the tag using X-Press It Foam Tape.
To finish the tag, I scattered Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear Stars and 6mm Cupped Sparkling Clear Sequins.
TIPS:
1. Have the caps off all the Various Ink Refills you plan to use and set them onto scrap paper or an additional Craft Sheet, to protect your work surface.
2. Wet the Yupo paper with 0-Colorless Blender Solution first, before applying Various Ink colors - It will lengthen the time you have to work with the color(s) and help move them around better.
3. If the Metallic Mixative isn't moving around the way you'd like it to, drop Colorless Blender Solution or more Various Ink Color onto it. This will cause the metallic color to "wick" and "vein" in pretty patterns!
4. Use a straw to blow through and move the color around (an awesome tip from Jennifer McGuire!).
5. Be sure to use an Embossing Bag or Powder Tool over your completed alcohol ink background, before stamping onto it to heat emboss.
