Working with Brandi and Julie brings me SO MUCH joy! I can honestly tell you that the planning sessions we have for upcoming products is filled with more giggles than you can imagine. Their sense of humor... no words! Needless to say it is sometimes hard to get the work done, but goodness we have a jolly time doing so!
Brandi's Leading Lady series is going to knock your socks off! Yes, that's right I said series! As you may have noticed this release was much smaller than usual. We have decided rather than trying to release so many different items at the same time, that less is more. Smaller, more frequent releases, that are designed to work with old and new products, will allow us the opportunity to really showcase each item in these new releases.
I love the fact that you can personalize this hysterical Crafty Lady (read the sentiments for a few giggles and see if you can relate to any of them) to suite your personality. Someone mentioned that she looked like me and sure enough she really does, but she looks like SO many of my friends as well!
Today we have two fun ways to personalize this sweet lady - please join Heather Meeson on her blog 39 Rue des Cartes as she dresses little Ms. Crafty and look for the downloadable PDF of the Copic colors I selected to color the Crafty Lady six different ways below!
I love to color and it has been FAR too long since I had taken out my Copics. Crafty Lady tugged at my heart AND my markers! It began with the desire to dress her for the seasons and color her in the human rainbow. I love Sandy's Human Rainbow and have been very lucky to color alongside Sandy, learning from her as she colored. You will see that I did get brave and incorporated some of the BV tones into the skin to add shading and interest in several versions.
The clothing I dressed them in was inspired by upcoming color trends (watch for more articles about the trends in months to come.) The pants in #1 were inspired by a chair I saw at Cost Plus World Market.
You will find so many inspiring color combinations and pieces in furniture and clothing stores!
While in New York this past May the Marimekko store window was emblazoned in a bold shot of color!
You can instantly see the inspiration for the shirt in #6.

To assist you in marker selection for a variety of ethnicities and hair colors I have created a PDF chart located above. Simply download and print if you need a starting reference point, BUT I encourage you to play as well. Record your color combinations on the Copic Blending Chart Carly created for you during our Copic week. You will find many ways to color this crafty lady!
I typically color the entire area in my lightest color and then add the darkest shade using a "flicking stroke" where the shadows lie, topping that with the mid-tone and extending it slightly further than the previous shade line. I then color the entire area with the lightest tone once again to blend the colors together and rid myself of any lines that may have been developed.
We can hardly wait to see how you personalize her!
