Hi there! Carolyn Peeler with you today to walk you through this encrusted jewel technique featuring WOW! products.
To start, cut a piece of white cardstock slightly smaller than 4.25" x 5.5". Get out the ink you'd like to use for embossing, today I used Versamark.
Next you're going to prep the embossing powder with the things you plan to add to it - this is where the encrusted jewels part comes in. You're going to use the embossing powder as the agent that holds the glitter and other elements to the cardstock - cool, eh?! You will want to use an Ultra high, or a Ultra thick embossing powder for this technique as it has more melted powder allowing for more "grab" than a normal embossing powder.
To start, you have two options for your glitter and embossing powder, you can either apply them separately, or you can pre-mix them. I opted to premix them as I wanted the glitter to have a uniform application on the card instead of being splotchy. So I put some of the WOW! Opaque Bright White Ultra High Embossing powder in a little container then mixed in a little bit of the beautiful Seahorse Premium Glitter also from Wow! It is such a beautiful shade of blue-green.
Next I had to do a little bit of prep with the 28 Lilac Lane Bead and Sequin mix in Winter Whites. I poured some into a little container and removed the largest beads and sequins as they were just a little too large for what I had in mind.
Ok, so now I'm ready to start!
I applied the versamark to the cardstock, then sprinkled the embossing powder/glitter mix and put the small beads and seqins over top of that. I then applied one more light coat of the embossing powder.
The next step is the MOST IMPORTANT! When you heat with your heat embossing tool, head from underneath the paper. Otherwise, all the beads, glitter and sequins will go flying and create a huge mess!
Next we'll work on the adorable otter for the front of the card using the Essentials by Ellen Otterly Awesome stamp and die set! I stamped the otter onto Vellum with Versamark and then embossed with Ranger White embossing powder.
After embossing, use the following colors of Copic marker to color on the wrong side/back of the vellum: E33, W5. After coloring, apply double sided adhesive to the back, then white cardstock and cut with the coordinating die. (This video tutorial walks you through this faux watercolor technique if you want to see it in detail.)
Your next step is to get the greeting stamped and embossed. Cut a piece of black cardstock 4-1/4" high x 2-1/8" wide. Then, using Versamar, stamp the greeting and emboss it with Ranger white embossing powder. Sew a straight line down the right side of the piece.
Cut a piece of Taylored Expressions Cookie Monster cardstock 4.25" x 5.25". Glue it to the front of a white A2 card. Then, glue the white cardstock centered onto the front of the Cookie Monster paper. Using dimensional adhesive, glue the black strip, that has the greeting, to the left side of the card. Then, using dimensional adhesive with a lower profile, glue the otters centered onto the encrusted jewel side of the card.
And there you go! The card is ready to be gifted to a loved one.
