Good Wednesday morning and welcome to the CLASSroom. The focus this week is on different types of ink. I am using Distress dye inks for my card today. Distress inks are water based inks that mix well with water and can be used to watercolor. I especially love using Distress reinkers to watercolor. Distress inks also dry slower than other water based inks and can be used for embossing in some circumstances.
For my project today I used the Impression Obsession Dragonfly and Cattails, the coordinating Large Dragonfly and Rectangle 6-in-1 Frames. I am showing how I apply Distress inks with mini applicators to a die cut made with Arches Hot Pressed Watercolor paper I like how the ink sponges on the smooth watercolor paper better than regular cardstock.
I started out using Tumbled Glass on the dragonfly wings.
Next I applied Dusty Concord to the main body and tail portion.
I added Broken China to the wings to add more depth of color and then went back and sponged out more of the Dusty Concord from the body and slightly out on the wings.
I used Peeled Paint and Gathered Twigs to color the cattails.
I repeated the same coloring steps to color the extra dragonfly.
I Googled pictures of dragonflies to get color ideas. One thing I noticed was how shimmery their wings are. I decided to apply Clear Rock Candy Glitter with Cosmic Glitter Glue to add sparkle to show it off more nestled in the cattails.
I wanted to use a rectangle frame with the die cut but it was just a tad bit bigger than the frame. I cut one end and one side off so it could fit perfectly behind the frame.
I used 1/8” double stick tape on the back of the frame to attach the die cut scene.
This picture shows that although I cut part of the frame off there was still plenty of the sections to attach to the frame to hold it in place.
Thin strips of mounting tape were attached to the back of the frame, cattails, dragonfly and foliage and then was attached to the card base.
The dragonfly was attached to the card base with two square pieces of mounting tape.
I specifically used a white card base for this so the images would show up well. This could be used for some many different occasions.
Thanks for coming by and I hope you are enjoying our posts using different types of inks.
