Happy Thursday! It's Carly and I'm here for another #throwbackthursdays, where we find inspiration in The CLASSroom archives!
Masking is one of my favorite card making techniques and Molotow Masking Fluid has become a staple in my tool box! The other day I pulled out my Molotow refill to fill up my masking pen and I had a eureka moment (LOL!)...I should try using the fluid with a paint brush! I had to laugh that this never occurred to me before because masking fluid is generally applied with a brush. And I LOVE my masking pen but sometimes it is hard to apply the fluid to a larger surface.
So with a pool of masking fluid on my craft mat, I tried my hand at painting a few scribbley shapes and here is the result:To create this card, start by painting a messy heart in masking fluid on smooth watercolor paper like Bristol. Make sure to use an old paint brush because it is difficult to remove the masking fluid completely. I just used an old brush and it is now my designated Molotow brush.
Let masking fluid dry. I don't recommend heat setting because it can make the masking harder to remove later.
Paint a loose watercolor background over masked heart. I like to apply water to my paper first and use Distress Inks to watercolor. For this background I used a clean paper towel to remove some of the wet color on the bottom third of the panel.
Let watercolor dry and use a barely damp cloth or baby wipe, to lift excess ink off of the masking. Then use a clean eraser or cloth to remove the masking.
To complete the card, add a sentiment over the masked heart. I love to combine die cut and stamped words so I borrowed the "you" from the Mondo Hydrangea stamp set and added it to the "LOVE" from the Holiday Words set. I stamped and embossed "you" in white next to the heart. I die cut 3 "LOVE" words in gold foil and adhered them together for a little dimension. Then I adhered them over the heart.
