Hi everyone! Welcome to Satur-YAY! We are celebrating the weekend by getting our craft on. I'm hoping to bring a little holiday card inspiration your way today and leave your craft mojo with a boost. Since I shared a little photo card inspiration with you earlier in the month (you can see that post by clicking HERE), I thought I would throw you another card idea, putting those adorable Christmas pictures to good use.
Today's card features the Envelope Slider Dies and a sliding film strip. When I was thinking about all of the options for Christmas photo cards, I just knew that a film strip style photo collage and the Envelope Slider Dies were destined to be together.
I started by creating my film strip in Photoshop Elements. This process is something I can share in a separate video tutorial if you're all interested. Let me know in the comments below. I measured the opening of my Envelope Slider die cut to make sure that my finished photos would slide easily through the opening.
Once I had my film strip ready, I was ready to do a little measuring. I slid my photo strip in to the die cut envelope and measured where I needed to make my opening in the card front. I marked it with a pencil to create a guide for my cutting. I used my craft knife to cut the slit in the card front. There's just something about using that craft knife that makes me feel super crafty. Once I had one card front created with the opening in just the right spot, I used that to mark the other card fronts.
I'll walk you through all of these steps in the video tutorial below. Be sure to check that out.
To add a little color and texture to my card front, I used my FAVORITE pine bough stamp from the Christmas Scribbles stamp set. This pine bough is perfect for stamping behind die cut elements. After all, what is Christmas without a little bit of pine? And I love the way I was able to make it look like the envelope was resting on top of a bunch of Christmas tree clippings.
Once my stamping was done and my envelope was adhered to my card front, it was time to secure my film strips in place. I created a stopper at the bottom of each of my film strips by adding a scrap piece of Neenah Solar White card stock to the bottom of the film strip. This piece is just a bit wider than the opening on the card front and bottom of the slider envelope. This prevents the film strip from coming completely out of the card. Of course, if you wanted, you could skip this step and allow the recipient to completely remove the film strip from the card.
I added foam adhesive all over the back of my card front. I used a small bit of foam adhesive on the bottom to prevent the film strip from sliding out of the bottom. I just made sure that I had my film strip at the lowest point that I wanted it to be, and then blocked it from going any further by adding foam adhesive. When adding the rest of the foam adhesive, I was careful that it would not impede the sliding action of the photos. Try testing the sliding before adding your card front to your card base to insure you'll have an easy slide.
For the sentiments on today's cards, I'm using a few different Essentials By Ellen dies. I used the Brushstroke Peace, as well as the Holiday Words dies. I combined them with some smaller embossed sentiments from the Brushstroke Christmas stamp set.
To add lots of dimension to the Brushstroke Peace die cut, I stacked several die cuts on top of each other. This was just easier than adding foam adhesive to the back of the die cut.
Since the Peace and Joy from the Holiday Words die set are a little bit broader, I decided to just use a bit of foam adhesive to adhere them on the card front.
I thought I would just use plain red card stock for all of the die cut sentiments, but I just couldn't resist pulling out my red glitter paper for a couple of these sentiments. I just stacked that die cut red glitter paper right on top of the other die cut sentiments. For the block lettered peace sentiment, I used a Spectrum Noir Clear Glitter Overlay pen to add a bit of sparkle. This might be a more cost effective way to add sparkle if you're mass producing these cards.
I finished the cards off by adding the card fronts to a kraft colored woodgrain card base. This ties in the kraft color I used for the Envelope Sliders. I also added some sparkling clear sequins here and there for a bit of added sparkle. We all know that everything at Christmas has to sparkle just a bit.
So much fun right? I love interactive cards and this card is no exception. This is such a fun way to send a little holiday cheer, along with some photos of your favorite cuties (dogs, cats, kiddos and grandkiddos included), to your family and friends this holiday season.
