Happy November! Carolyn Peeler with you today to share a thank you card designed as an ode to the beautiful fall weather. Let's get started.
Today's card is a part of the Inchies product feature in the CLASSroom this week. And, as a perk of being the featured item, all inchies art squares are 20% off in the Ellen Hutson store through Nov. 5, so it's a fantastic time to stock up!
This was my first time working with the Inchie Arts Art Squares and I loved them. They are made of museum quality matte board which behaves like fine art paper and can be used with both wet and dry mediums. It behaves in a manner that many say is similar to watercolor paper - which was my experience with it.
In addition to the Inkies arts squares, I used the beautiful Essentails by Ellen "Autumn Acorns" Clear Stamp set:
And a lot of Ranger Distress Markers as my color medium for the stamps.
Let's jump right in and I'll show you how I pulled this project together!
To get started, you will want four of the Inchie Arts Art Squares 1", a leaf from the "Autum Acrons" stamp set, a stamp block (to put the leaf stamp onto), a selection of Distress ink markers and a spray bottle.
I really wanted the leaves that I stamped to show a mix of color, so I used 3 different colors on each leaf. For this first leaf, I directly colored onto the stamp with the following Distress Marker colors: Ripe Persimmon, Fossilized Amber and Brushed Corduroy.
After you color with the markers, hold a spray bottle about 10-14 inches away from the stamp and mist 2-3 times. The more you mist, the more your colors will run together. So you will want to experiment to find out what look you prefer. Here is mine after I misted and then stamped onto the inchie arts square:
I repeated the same steps three more times.
For the photo below, I used the following Distress marker colors: Rusty Hinge, Vintage Photo and Gathered Twigs.
For the photo below, I used the following Distress marker colors: Crushed Olive, Forest Moss, and Walnut Stain. Notice on this one you see much more detail on the stamp. That is because I (accidentally) didn't mist as much on this one as I did on the others. So, I misted more water onto the stamp and re-stamped the image in order to achieve more of a watercolor affect.
Next, switch your stamp to the outline leaf that matches the solid leaf you used previously and stamp it, using Memento Tuxedo Black, on top of the solid watercolor leaves.
As a finishing touch, I decided to add a soft Distressed border to each Inchie Square using Brushed Corduroy Distress ink and an ink blending tool. To do this, simply tap the blending tool onto the ink pad, then holding the square, gently brush the blending tool down, from top to the bottom, of the four sides of each square.
Next we're going to start to put our card base together. First, cut a piece of the white and diamond patterned paper from the C'est la Vie 6x6 paper pad. Then, cut a smaller piece of Ellen Hutson vellum and sew it, centering it onto the patterned paper.
Your next step is to make your own patterned paper using VersaMark ink, one of the leaf stamps from the "Atumn Acorns" stamp set, and Ranger kraft cardstock. Randomly stamp the leaf, using the VersaMark ink onto the craft cardstock, then glue two strips of it above and below your patterned paper.
It's time to stamp your greeting! Cut a narrow strip of Bazzill Licorice cardstock. Prep your cardstock by first with the Embossing Magic Pouch to eliminate static cling when you emboss. Then stamp the "THANK YOU" greeting (from the same stamp set, Autumn Acorns) using Versamark ink, center it onto the strip. Sprinkle with Ranger White superfine embossing powder and heat emboss.
Trim the strip to size:
I decided that I wanted the Inchie squares to be a variety of different heights. So, I glued two directly to the card front, then applied 3D adhesive to the backs of the other two. I used Regular 3D foam for one of them, and THIN 3D foam for the other.
Your final step is to cut a piece of Nennah Natural white cardstock that you can glue this card front onto in order to make it a fully functioning card. After you've cut a piece of cardstock the correct size and folded it in half, then glue this card front onto it, and you're done!
