Can I just tell you that I have learned so much from Ellen! She is a wealth of product information, teaching me all sorts of wonderful things about the fun goodies in the EH warehouse. And in addition to the amazing product library that is her brain, she is also an expert in the elements of design (thanks in part to her background of interior design). As I have learned from Ellen, the color blue communicates trust, confidence, serenity, and reliability. And yellow brings about a feeling of optimism and happiness. Perfect color combo to create a card for a dear friend!
And here is the blue & yellow card I created:
Nothing says blue to me like denim so I set out to create a faux blue denim background. Here's what you need if you want to create some faux denim:
- your favorite paper for ink blending (I love Bristol)
- blue ink (I used Distress Ink Chipped Sapphire)
- ink blending tool
- clear gesso
- palette knife
- plastic comb (just a regular 99 cent comb)
- piece of RUBit SCRUBit (optional)
Apply blue ink to cardstock with blending tool. I like to work with the 5.5 x 5.5 squares of Smooth Bristol so I can leave an un-inked section to hold while I'm inking. Keeps my fingers clean (er) and leaves less smudges in my freshly inked area.
Use a piece of RUBit SCRUBit to create "scratchy lines" in the wet ink by pressing firmly and pulling it across the paper. NOTE: this step is optional but I like the depth & texture it adds to the final background.
Apply a layer of Clear Gesso with a palette knife.
Use a comb to create horizontal lines in the wet gesso.
When the gesso is partially dry, use the comb to create vertical lines. And then dry completely (air dry or heat gun).
Admire your gorgeous faux denim background for a minute, LOL!
Now use the amazing faux denim background. I used a pre-printed flower from the Cosmo Cricket WIP Art Deck. The Cosmo Cricket WIP pieces are super easy to watercolor and they are printed in gold foil, gorgeous!
Add a sentiment and ta-da!
