Good Wednesday morning and welcome to the CLASSroom. Burnished Velvet is the focus this week for our design team projects. I have to admit this is a new technique to me and I had lots of fun browsing through the Burnished Velvet posts and examples for ideas. I finally decided that I would fair better making a simple project using the technique rather than getting in over my head. Julie’s Mondo Magnolia Stamp set and coordinating Mondo Magnolia Die set gave me the opportunity to create an elegant white and gold floral project with simple straight lines of Burnished Velvet gold.
Stamp the flower three times with versa and emboss with gold embossing powder.
Secure the die in place with a couple pieces of tape and run through the die cutting machine. By the way….have I told you how much I love my new Big Shot Express! Just sayin’.
Repeat this step cutting out the two smaller sections of the magnolia.
The flower is large so I felt two thin lines of gold would be just enough to embellish without taking away from the flower.
Apply a section of Be Creative 1/4” double stick tape across the top and bottom of the card base.
Remove one section of the tape at a time, apply the Elizabeth Craft microfine gold glitter and shake off the excess glitter. Secure the glitter into the tape with your finger tip by pressing firmly and rubbing in a light circular motion.
Once the glitter is secure in the tape use a clean brush to remove the excess glitter that sticks on the cardstock.
Lightly roll and form the petal sections with your fingers to add dimension and life to the flower.
Attach the two larger sections of the flower to the card base with mounting tape.
Apply glossy accents to the smallest section and secure in place.
I added tiny dots of glue to the floral pattern on the smallest section of the flower and lightly dusted with glitter to add one more element of the sparkly gold. I failed to get a picture of that step.
Now that I know how easy this technique is I will be stepping up my game and going for some more intricate patterns using my die cuts and Be Creative Sheets. I hope the beautiful projects this week will inspire you to get going on a Burnished Velvet project of your own.
