Hi everyone! Welcome to Satur-YAY! Today is all about celebrating the weekend by getting our craft on. I'm Carissa and I'm here to inspire you and get those creative juices flowing! My hope is that you'll walk away ready to create something of your own.
Today I'll be using the Slide On Over dies from Lawn Fawn, along with some of my favorite Essentials By Ellen stamps, to create a fun slider card. You're not going to believe how easy it is to create a slider card with these Slide On Over dies. And, they're designed to coordinate with the Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Border dies. I love it when products are designed to be used alone, or with another set. I feel like you can really get more out of your products that way!
To color my images, I chose to do a little sparkle watercolor using my Distress Inks. I used my Spectrum Noir Clear Overlay pen just like you would a water brush. By using the Clear Overlay pen instead of a plain 'ol water brush, I get a watercolor image with LOTS of sparkle! And we all know how I love a little sparkle in my life.
I'll show you exactly how I created the card in the video tutorial below. I'll be sure to show you exactly how to use the Slide On Over dies to create an easy slider card. Be sure to check that out.
I've also put together a few tips for using the Side On Over dies to make your slider card work flawlessly.
TIPS AND TRICKS
- Go incognito- In order to disguise your slider track, make sure you add a piece of card stock or inking that matches the card front you're using. If you're using a pink card front, and a white card base, your white slider track will be really obvious on your finished card. You can camouflage this by adding the same color card stock in the area behind the slider track.
- Double up the double stick- Add a double layer of foam adhesive to your card front. This will allow more room for your penny to slide between the card front layer and the card base layer. In the end, your slider will move more freely and you won't have to coerce it to move back and forth.
- Make a trip to the powder room- The foam adhesive you use to adhere your slider element may have a little bit of stick on the sides. This will cause the slider element to stick in places and not allow for a smooth ride. By deactivating the sides of your foam tape with a little bit of powder (a powder tool, embossing buddy or even baby powder will work here), you'll get a smoother glide along the track. Also, try powdering the inside edges of your slider track as well. Okay, I was lacking for a clever little saying for this one...so you get corny jokes instead.
- Spinning in circles- If you use circle shaped foam adhesive inside your track instead of a rectangular or square piece, you can make your slider SPIN and slide too! I'll show you an example of this in the video tutorial.
- Mix it up- Try using a sentiment as the slider element or even adding multiple sliders to the same card. You can really have a lot of fun with this!
- Xacto-mundo- If you don't have these dies and you want to create a slider card, you can use a craft knife or to cut your own channel in your card front.
