Hi friends, Carolyn Peeler here to share a feminine, sparkly thank you card with you today in the CLASSroom. Please follow along for the step by step.
First you'll want to prep your die cut paper. I knew that I wanted the word to be sparkly. You can do this a few ways:
1) You can use glitter paper. This is the easiest/fastest method - but if you don't have some on hand, there are some work arounds. (See steps 2 and 3!)
2) You can use double sided adhesive which you stick onto plain cardstock, then cover the adhsive with loose glitter
3) You can use Best Creation Glitter tape which you stick onto plain cardstock. This was the method I chose and I was incredibly pleased with it - the tape does not shed and it was faster and created less mess than using loose glitter.
You'll want to make sure that you line the edges of the tape up well so that there is no gap between the strips, otherwise you will see the cardstock which will detract from the continuity of the glitter.
I needed 3 strips of the tape in order to be wide enough for my die cut. After sticking the tape down I laid the Lawn Fawn Scripty Thanks die cut onto the tape and put it through my die cutting machine.
After I cut the word, I was stuck for an unusually long time. I tried all sorts of things...I did some stamping, I played with patterned paper combinations...I hemmed and I hawed...before I had that moment where everything came together.
Taking your favorite watercolor paper, cut it 8.5" wide x 5.5" high and fold in half to make your card front.
Next, taking the BLOOM 6x6 paper pad choose two complementary patterned papers to use for your card. I used the white dot and the black floral. And I positioned them with the white paper at the top of the card and black paper on the bottom as the darker paper helps to ground the card design. (Please note, while the 'thanks' die cut can be seen in the image below, it is NOT glued onto the project yet. We still have to do something more to it.)
After you glue the paper onto the card front, trim any overlapping paper with your scissors.
Next, you will prep the vellum that will go across the top of the card. For that you will want to use a scallop border die cut such as one of the ones here. Cut three strips.
You will want to cut each strip wider than the one before so that you have a cascade of the vellum down the top of the card. Layer your 3 borders together across the top of the card and hold in place with your fingers.
Bring over to your sewing machine and hold in place while you sew across the top to anchor the vellum. I did this instead of using any other type of adhesive.
After you are finished sewing, tie off the ends of the thread and cut the vellum that is hanging off the top and sides of the card.
Now we're going to go back to that Lawn Fawn Scripty Thanks die. I decided that I wanted to add some depth and to the greeting so I cut 2 additional pieces of the thanks from some thick watercolor paper scraps.
Then I glued the three layers together so that it looked like this.
Next it is time to set up a watercolor base below where the 'thanks' greeting will go on the card.
I used a combination of Tattered Rose Distress ink and Kuretake Gansai Tanbi Carmine Red (35) watercolor paint to paint the ombre pink swash across the bottom of the card.
Your final step is to glue the 'thanks' greeting, slightly right of center, on top of the watercolor. And you're done!
