Hi! Happy Thursday friends! Carly here for another #throwbackthursdays! As some of you might know, I've been practicing my coloring skills and my favorite medium is Clean Color Real Brush Markers. To amp up my practicing, I looked in The Classroom archives and found some great examples of "spotlight coloring" by Sharon. The spotlight technique creates a focus on one area of your image by only coloring a section. Check out Sharon's cards:
Stamp of the Month Inchie Spotlight by Sharon Harnist
WCMD 2011 - Inchie Challenge by Sharon Harnist
While Sharon used Inchies to create a dimensional spotlight, I decided to stay flat and here's what I came up with:
To start I stamped the Catherine Scanlon Peonies in Distress Ink Spun Sugar on Smooth Bristol cardstock. I chose pink ink because I wanted my peonies to be pink and I knew it would be easy to blend.
Next I used Inkadinkado Stamping Mask Paper to divide my image. You can easily hand cut the masking paper but I happened to have the MFT Snow Drifts die on my desk and I thought a curved spotlight area would be neat.
I colored the areas above and below my masks in gray tones, starting with the medium gray and blending with the lighter shade.
Next I removed my masking paper and colored the middle section.
I created my sentiment by stamping "you are" from the Essentials by Ellen Totally Awesome stamp set and cut "magic" from the Essentials by Ellen Positive Words die set. I die cut "magic" 3 times from solar white cardstock and once from black glitter paper, then layered them using a Quickie Glue pen.
Have a great day!
xo, Carly
