Peonies are my absolute favorite flower and they are perfect for this time of year. They also make a very elegant card design and today I've been inspired by spring to create a beautiful peony design.
I love using 2-step stamping techniques. It's amazing all the dimension the multiple layers give and this stunning new stamp set from Altenew is simply a gorgeous classic. I just couldn't wait to get my hands on it.
One thing that I like to do and suggest you do the same, is to try out different inks on the layers to see what goes together the best. To show off the beauty of all the layers of stamping, you need a good variety of inks. Dye inks, hybrid inks and pigment inks all work well on this stamp set but I chose to use Avery Elle pigment inks for this project as I love the coverage and I had a beautiful array of ink colors that work perfectly for the peonies.
Ink Colors for the Peonies in order of use:
- Pixie Pink Ink on largest peony stamp.
- Thistle Ink on largest outline stamp.
- Magenta on largeer detail stamp.
- Fizz on final layer.
On the leaves:
Sea Glass, Lemon Grass, & Jungle
Adding in blues with the green leaves and orange with the pink peonies adds interest and depth of color.
Once the stamping was completed I die-cut the panel with a stitched rectangle die from the MFT Stamps Blueprints 20 Die-namics Set. It's a simple die but one I use all the time as it really gives a subtle but beautiful finished edge.
I just can't get enough of this beautiful script sentiment die by Julie Ebersole. It's so pretty and elegant and seriously, who doesn't make a lot of thank you cards? It's perfect! I've die-cut it from black card stock and then adhered it with liquid adhesive. Just use the barest of drops as this die is so fine, you don't want the glue smooshing everywhere.
To finish it all off, I added in some sequins and a sweet little glitter heart sticker. The subtle shine adds to the design without taking away from the stamping details.
The best tip I have for you today is to keep it simple. I love complex designs but this stunning stamp set is so pretty on its own that adding too much to it actually takes away from the beauty of the design.
Thanks so much for joining me today in the CLASSroom! Have a fabulous and creative weekend!
