Hi there crafty peeps! It's Lisa on the 'ol blog and I'm bringing you the Mother's Day card I made for MY mamacita. :) But, shhhhhh don't tell her, okay? Hopefully she's not out browsing the Internet today.
I'm still having a lot of fun using the Arc Crafts Self Adhesive Wood Sheets (the Cherry being my favorite color). I just love how versatile these sheets are. If you saw my #TexturalTuesdays post from 2 weeks ago you'll see that I just cut them to make my card. Fun stuff, though, and super easy to use!
Here is my card for today and then I'll tell you how it all came together (I'll try to keep it short, I promise!):
I cut a piece of Bazzill Card Shoppe Cardstock (in the color Gummy Worms) in half and scored it on the vertical edge using using the Teflon Bone Folder to make a top folding card. A piece of patterned paper was cut ¼" smaller and adhered to the card base using my new fave adhesive the E-Z Runner® Ultra Refillable Adhesive by Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L®.
The wood sheet was die-cut next using the largest heart from the Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies, Folk Hearts by Julie Ebersole and a small strip of ¼" Be Creative Tape was added to the right side (and burnished with the Teflon Bone Folder prior to releasing the tape liner.)
Once the tape liner is released, place the Wow! Fab Foil in Pink shiny side up on top of the tape, rub with your finger, and lift up. You'll now have a beautifully foiled strip for the edge with NO laminating machine necessary. Cool, huh?
To make the wood sheet look a little white-washed I used a mix of a Gelatos® in the color Caramel, Gesso, and water and mixed it together. I played around with this mixture until I really liked the color. I didn't want it to be white, but off-white. Then it was rubbed on with the end of a rag.
The wood sheets actually are already self adhesive but I did want it to be more dimensional, so I peeled off the adhesive liner and added a bunch of 3D Foam Adhesive Squares. I like to use the ones that come in a mix of small and large squares. And when they're black, they're less noticeable.
A piece of Silver Glitter tape was cut to the same length as the card and positioned in place, and the wood sheet piece was then placed on top (after the foam square liners were removed).
(A close-up of the white-wash once it's been adhered.)
Die-cut two two pieces of felt from the My Favorite Things Die-Namics, Mini Hybrid Heirloom Rose only using the smallest scalloped pieces.
Start rolling from the "tail" end and roll toward the center. *Tip - dab a bit of Ranger Multi Medium, Matte (or an adhesive dot) to hold the "tail" in place as you roll. Then add another dot at the bottom to hold it securely in place when finished rolling.
I also hand cut another flower simply by making a spiral and trimming the edges as necessary. Two leaves were die-cut out of a light green felt. The flowers and leaves were all adhered using Ranger Multi Medium, Matte.
I stamped "Mom" from the Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps, Amazing Women by Julie Ebersole onto a scrap piece of Strathmore 140 lb watercolor paper (which isn't quite white) using Versafine Ink in Smokey Gray and I heat embossed it using Wow! Embossing Powder, Super Fine - Clear Gloss.
After the sentiment is stamped it was run through the trusty die-cutting machine again with the Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies, Folk Hearts by Julie Ebersole. More 3D Foam Squares were added to the back of the heart and it was adhered to the center of the large heart.
To finish embellishing, I wrapped doubled up hemp twine around the card front and tied in a bow. A pearl was added to the center. I thought it was too start in contrast, so I colored it with a C9 Copic Marker. I noticed that once I colored it, the color was a bit "tacky" looking so I added a light coat of Glossy Accents.
The final thing I did was coat the entire center heart with Zig Wink of Stella, Clear. I love the way the whole heart is so shimmery. The colors of this card are very pretty and a bit non-traditional. I know that my mom loves the felt flowers so I HAD to add those. Pretty sure that she'll love this...and I hope that YOU do, too. :)
Here's another angle for you...
And one more just to show all the lovely dimension!
