Hi there #TexturalTuesdays fans! Lisa here with you, as usual, and I have a Father's Day card to share with you today...#TexturalTuesdays style, of course. ;)
I made this card for MY dad, which makes sense, but my dad is kinda particular. Doesn't golf, thinks hipster is lame, and makes making cards for him, well...difficult. But, I love him. He's my pop. He thinks I'm a genius when it comes to card-making (I don't show him what anyone else creates, so of course he does!! ;) ) This year I went simple, full on texture, with warm neutrals. Siiiigggghhhh.... And just a pop of color.
This is the kind of card that just begs you to touch it. Two types of wood, the texture paste, the cork, embossing on vellum, and that gorgeous heart!! And so simple to make.
I'm going to show you my steps and where I actually changed my mind along the way! Fun, huh?
1. I originally wanted to use a mix of fonts and had cut apart the sentiment "Happy Father's Day" from the Essentials By Ellen Clear Stamps, 12 Days Companion Greetings by Julie Ebersole . Then I stamped it with a mix from the Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps, Totally Awesome by Julie Ebersole. I stamped them with Versamark, and embossed with Copper Embossing powder into neutral cardstock.
You'll notice this is NOT what the finished card looks like. After I was done kind of piecing it together, I realized I liked the simplicity of the font from the original stamp set so I put it all back together and stamped it onto Vellum, and again, used Copper EP. This looked so much better.
2. First I adhered the beautiful wood patterned paper from Crate Paper's Bloom by Maggie Holmes Collection. After that I gathered my TEXTURES!! Yeah, baby! Different wood veneers and cork. Both with adhesive backing. And, again, I was going to use vellum as well, but decided against it. Sometimes less is more.
3. I cut the cork and wood into a variety of circles/sizes using circle Die-Namics. As you can see in this next photo I had cut a circle out of the Vellum. The photo below was for placement. I did not adhere the circles yet.
4. Prior to adhering the circles I wanted to add some texture using texture paste and a stencil. There are a variety of BOTH, so use what you're familiar with. I'm quite familiar with the Texture Luxe™ in Copper from Design Memory Craft and how it performs so that's what I used. It's very easy to spread and dries fairly quickly (the drying process may also be sped up with a low-heat heat tool.)
I spread the Texture Luxe™ through the stencil using an old gift card. I've used fancy tools and this is still my favorite way to get texture spread through a stencil.
Once the stencil has been lifted:
Make sure the Texture Luxe™ is dry before you move on. Trust me.
5. I die-cut another circle to match the smallest wood veneer circle out of Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® 3D Foam Creative Sheets. I initially put a few foam squares on the back to give it dimension and then realized you could see through the veneer! Ack! So I had to carefully peel those off and that's when I die-cut the Adhesive Sheet, which worked like a charm.
6. All my circles were now adhered in place (minus the vellum one). And this is when I decided I didn't like how my sentiment looked. I put it back together and stamped it onto a vellum strip. So, I still got that Vellum in there anyway.
Once I had all this put together I felt it still needed a little something. I went looking through all of my wood embellishments a found a nice wood veneer heart from Lawn Fawn.
7. Color the heart with R29 Copic going with the grain of the wood. Once dry, coat the heart with Ranger Glossy Accents. Adhere with Ranger Multi Medium, in Matte finish for a strong hold.
8. Before the Glossy Accents completely dries, shake a tiny bit of Distress Glitter in Clear Rock Candy for a little extra shimmer. (Dad will never know! Shhhh....)
