I'm always a huge fan of embellishments...especially those you can alter and use in multiple ways. Today I'm sharing a card design I've created that features an altered resin embellishment. It's a beautiful new resin bird from Maya Road and while it looks lovely in white, there's so much more that you can do with it.
I've paired up this sweet bird with other lovely products and have even made a sweet little twine nest to perch my bird in. Let's get started with how I created it!
This Snow White Nesting Resin Bird is from Maya Road and is super sweet. You can add ink to it or leave it as is. But I thought I'd pull out my Copic Markers and see how they worked on the resin.
First of all I started with adding in some Y11 Pale Yellow to the beak and underside of the bird.
Bit by bit I added in color, building up the layers until I got the look I wanted. Make sure you left the Copic ink dry between adding in more pigment so that you don't remove what is already there. It's very easy to do and you can use any color palette you wish. I've created a bird from my imagination but if you have something particular in mind, doing a Google search on what that particular bird looks like will give you more natural results.
These are the Copic Sketch Marker colors that I used. All supplies are listed and linked below at the end of the post.
I'm loving this gorgeous C'est la Vie line by Pink Paislee. All the lovely floral and natural elements look so pretty with my altered bird.
To create the nest, simple wrap lots of twine around two fingers...
...and then tie a knot around the section of twine wraps to hold it in place. I used a bit of hot glue to adhere the bird over the knotted area and keep him in his nest.
The bits and pieces of the Tim Holtz Thrift Shop Ephemera Pack make great image layers that add a vintage and garden touch to the design. I've also created the sentiment with some sweet word stickers that are also from Tim Holtz. They are called Chitchat Stickers and are great for mixing and matching to create a sentiment or art journaling words. They come in both white and kraft stickers in the same pack. To add a vintage look to all the paper elements in this design, I sponged the edges with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink.
Putting it all together you end up with a sweet and unique card design.
Do you like to alter embellishments? It's a great way to get a beautiful custom look that is all your own!
Thanks for joining me today in the CLASSroom! Have a fabulous and creative weekend!
