Hi everyone and welcome to this month’s Satur-YAY! We’re celebrating the weekend by getting our craft on….and this month it’s all about having fun with fabulous felt! Sorry…I couldn’t resist. I have a few different projects for you. I think there’s a little something for everyone in this mix of projects!
For all of the projects today, I’ll be using the Taylored Expressions 100% Wool Felt. It’s available in so many yummy colors. This high quality felt die cuts beautifully, which means you can use it with any die that you already own. In order to die cut this felt, you don’t need any special shims or base plates. You can use your regular cutting sandwich and you’ll get great results. You’ll see this in action in the video tutorial below.
For my first project, I’m using the Up The Happy stamps and coordinating dies. I cut the clouds from the Taylored Expressions marshmallow felt and the balloon from the aqua mist felt. To attach them to the card base, I used some Tombow Mono liquid glue. I experimented with using the Multi Medium Matte for adhering the felt…but found I got better results with the Tombow because the bond was much quicker and the glue seemed to sink in to the fiber of the felt, giving it a better bond.
I stamped the sentiment on some linen cardstock using my Mini MISTI. I knew I might not get a great impression right off the bat, since I was stamping on a textured cardstock. Using the MISTI allowed me to double stamp the sentiment to get a great impression. This tool is also great for mass production.
I finished this card off with just a few finishing touches. I added some gold stitching using my sewing machine. I also added some black Shape N Tape to repeat the black I used for the sentiment. And I finished by adding some sparkling clear sequins from Pretty Pink Posh for just a touch of sparkle. Quick, simple and adorable!
I’m using the All Inside stamp and die set for my second project. I cut my bear from the marshmallow felt. I then stamped the coordinating stamp right on top of my die cut felt using Staz On ink. Keep in mind, when stamping on felt you won’t get the super crisp and dark image that you would get on card stock due to the fibrous nature of felt. However, it’s a fun technique to try. To darken the image a bit on the felt, I double stamped the image on the felt. I also die cut a heart for my little bear to hold from aqua mist felt.
I decided I would use this little guy on a tag instead of a card. I used the My Favorite Things Stitched Traditional Tags dies to cut my tag from linen card stock. I then embossed the Wonky Stitched Circle die on the tag to give my bear a little frame to land in.
The tag sentiment is from the All Inside stamp set as well. I stamped the large LOVE along the side of the tag. For a pop of color, I used a red Zig Clean Color marker to color in the stamped sentiment. I also embossed the word inside on some Licorice Twist card stock using a super fine detail embossing powder. For added dimension, I attached it to my tag using some foam adhesive.
This little guy totally reminds me of the Coca Cola polar bears! Isn’t he just too cute?
I also created some fun decorative paper clips using some die cut felt shapes. These are a snap to make and would be fun attached to a gift, your planner (any planner girls in the house?) or even just to use around the office.
I’m using some regular ol’ paper clips (gold of course) to create these clips. I used a bit of hot glue to attach the felt shapes to the paper clip. So that both sides have a finished look, I sandwiched the paper clips between two die cut pieces. I also cut a couple of bows and attached them to the top of some paper clips too! Very Kate Spade, right?
The bow die I used to create the aqua bow is now retired, however, I’ve linked some similar bow dies below.
I used that same bow to dress up a little treat bag too! I used the Goodie Bag die from Lawn Fawn to cut some more linen card stock. With that adorable bow, the bag didn’t need much else to make it feel complete. I just embossed a sentiment on a vellum tag and layered it up with some gold glitter card stock and attached it to the goodie bag. Isn’t it adorable? I feel like there should be a little blue box with some diamonds inside this treat bag. ;) But even the simplest little gift would feel so special in this adorable package.
So there you have it! Lots of fabulous fun with felt. I think my favorite might be that little goodie bag. What speaks to you?
I hope I’ve given you some inspiration for using felt on your next crafting project. It’s so much fun to play with and it gives your projects a whole new texture and tactile quality. I can imagine that little ones would love to receive projects like this because they have something to touch and feel on their card.
Don’t forget, I’ve included a video tutorial below. I’ll walk you through these projects and give you some other tips along the way. I’ve also linked all of the products used in these projects below.
