There's nothing quite like some new and gorgeous products to inspire you to get crafty! This time of year, with TONS of new releases, is one of my favorite for crafting. The shop at Ellen Hutson LLC is full of stunning new goodies and I've started quite the wishlist.
This week has been a fabulous one as the new Essentials by Ellen Winter 2016 line released! I'm loving all the beautiful stamps and dies and the inspiration is wonderful. Today I'm combining a couple of the new releases with some other new products in the store and a few oldies but goodies too! I love making tags and so I thought that's what I would create today. This would be so wonderful tied to a gift or you could even take the design and apply it to a card front.
So one of the oldie-but-goodie products I've included is the base for this tag. Have you tried the Craft-a-Board product? It's wonderful and sturdy chipboard in a slight off-white color. It's perfect for die cutting and here I've cut it to a 5" x 3.5" tag. If you want to make a tag and don't have a tag die...don't worry! Rectangular tags are perfectly fine!
I wish I'd shot a picture of all the wonderful papers in this new paper line from Pink Paislee! It's gorgeous and called C'est la Vie. That means that's life in French (just in case you didn't know). All the prints used on this tag come from this 6x6 paper pad. Cover the tag base with this pretty brick wall paper and adhere well.
Next up another die I've been dying to use. It's the Hoop Die from Neat & Tangled. I've die cut it from Craft-a-Board and patterned paper. When die cutting craft-a-board I suggest using a metal shim to press it through the thickness well.
You'll be left with this inner hoop area. I was going to set it aside and then decided that I could use it to create a hand cut and very pretty rolled rose. You can create one from any circle so I just trimmed off the top little section of paper.
To make a rolled rose, simply start at the outside of a circle and cut in a spiral towards the center. Stop when you get to the center area and leave a 1/2 inch circle.
Take the spiral and starting from the outer edge roll around a stylus or something thin and round. I'm using a large darning needle here. Spiral the paper around the needle and wrap tightly.
When you get to the end, add a liberal about of hot glue or other quick drying adhesive and adhere.
Here's what it will look like and this is how I build up my design. By placing things roughly where I want them, I can think about what I need to complete the design.
Next step was to die cut some vellum with the hoop die. I'm using the inner shape for this layer and once again, trim off the little tab.
To create the sentiment I wanted use a couple of the new Essentials by Ellen sets. I've paired up the Totally Fabulous Die and the Totally Awesome Stamp Set. They work together perfectly! Fabulous is die cut from gold glitter cardstock.
And here's tip for stamping two parts of a sentiment. It works great on vellum as you can see through it! Place a piece of lined paper (this wood paper works as it has horizontal lines) and stamp the two parts of the sentiment on the lines.
Adhere the tag layers and distress with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink.
A Crop-a-dile works great to punch a tag hole through all the layers.
To finish off the top of the hoop, I've die cut the accent dies from gold foil cardstock and then adhered them.
The bottom of the tag is embellished with some pretty white paper flowers from Maya Road (coming soon!) and some leaf die cuts in Neenah Solar White cardstock using the Essentials by Ellen Wild Garden die set.
Add a little twine to the top of the tag and you're all done!
Thanks for joining me today in the CLASSroom! Have a fabulous and creative weekend!
