Good Wednesday morning and welcome to the CLASSroom. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and I wanted to create a clean and simple card using Julie’s wonderful Folk Hearts die set and Love You So stamp set. I love the shape of the hearts and the contrast of the red and white alternating layers.
Cut the largest heart using a 5.50” x 4.25” piece of white cardstock.
The red heart was cut using a piece of red cardstock approximately 5.25” x 4.00”. It needed to be small enough so the edges wouldn’t show behind the main white frame layer but remain large enough to create full mat coverage for the large heart opening. I mention this because the first time I cut my red heart layer it was too short and the white heart opening wasn’t totally covered. LOL!
The smallest white heart was cut, stamped with the sentiment in black versafine and embossed with gold embossing powder. Hint: I use black pigment ink to stamp so I can see clearly where the sentiment is going to hit on the cardstock. I am the worlds worst at getting sentiments stamped crooked when using clear versa. And it really doesn’t matter using black versa because the gold embossing powder covers the black well.
I wanted the sentiment heart to have a red layer behind it so I hand cut one using my deckle scissors. The deckle edge is jagged and uneven all the way around and adds an element of interest to all the clean die cut layers.
Attach the sentiment layer to the red using strips of mounting tape.
Hand cut metallic gold foil cardstock to create large arrow. I didn’t have a pattern so I just winged it.
All the parts and pieces are ready to be assembled.
Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the white heart frame and attach to the red heart matting frame.
Apply ATG adhesive to the back of the double matted frame and attach it to the card base.
Apply a glue dot to the end arrow parts, line them to look like one whole arrow being shot through the heart, tuck them in between the layers and attach.
Apply mounting tape to the back of the sentiment heart and attach to the card base. Apply a tiny rolled glue dot to the arrow point and fletching to secure them to the white frame.
After all my pictures were taken I had an afterthought that it would have been so cute to add a tiny red die cut heart over the gold embossed sentiment heart. Oh well….next time!
I hope you have been inspired to get out your Valentine stamps and dies and make a few special cards for your loved ones.
