Hi Everyone! It's Carly and I'm here for another #throwbackthursday!
As I told you last week, I love trying out new products & techniques and this week I was super excited to play with Ranger Alcohol Ink. I found these great articles in The Classroom to help me get started (and remember Copic Various Ink Refills are alcohol ink too and work the same way as the Ranger Alcohol Ink)
Tuesday Technique Recipe - Pearlized Polished Stone by Lisa Strahl
Shaken, Not Stirred! Various Ink Technique By Lisa Strahl
O Holy Night: Polished Stone with Copic Various Inks, by Debbie Olson
Excited to give the Polished Stone technique a try, I created this card:
1. I started with a 3-1/2 x 5 piece of Yupo. This technique needs a non-porous surface and I have been excited to take the Yupo for a test drive but Ranger Glossy Cardstock or Alcohol Ink Cardstock would work well too.
2. Using Lisa Strahl's technique, I applied 3 colors of ink (Currant, Cranberry & Poppyfield) to my Ranger Alcohol Ink Applicator Tool in a triangle pattern, adding Pearl Metallic Mixative on top of all three colors. I "pounced" the applicator tool on the paper, covering about 3/4 of the surface with color.
3. Then I added a few drops of Blending Solution to the tool and "pounced" that over my inked area until I achieved the desired texture.
4. When I was satisfied with my background, I stamped a sentiment from the Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps Mistletoe & Holly set in Jet Black Stazon. I inked more Yupo with Lettuce and then die cut it with the holly from the Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies Poinsettia & Pine. Also using the Poinsettia & Pine set, I die cut the berries from silver foil paper. Finally I added a little bit of silver splatter along the top with the Delicata Silver Shimmer ink pad and adhered the panel to a Solar White card.
After creating the polished stone background, I experimented with just dropping and "blooming" alcohol ink on Yupo and used the background to create this card:
1. I knew I was going to ultimately create a 3-1/2 x 5 card but for this technique it is important not to handle the paper much and leave fingerprints so I initially started a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 piece.
2. I applied the 5 colors of alcohol ink (Lettuce, Meadow, Cranberry, Currant & Cool Peri) one at a time, by squeezing 3-4 drops on to the piece of Yupo. When the alcohol drop hits the Yupo, it "blooms" into a circle. (TIP: If your Yupo does have lots of fingerprints, your circles won't bloom, they will puddle.)
Some of the lighter colors bloom with multi-colored halos (like Cool Peri) and some have lighter halos like Cranberry.
3. When I was happy with my alcohol ink background (which was so easy right?), I created the accents for my card. I die cut holly and berries from silver foil paper with the Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies Poinsettia & Pine. I stamped and embossed a sentiment from Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps Mistletoe & Holly in silver on vellum.
4. I cut my alcohol inked background down to 3-1/4 x 4-3/4 and stitched my vellum on top. I adhered the panel to a Desert Storm card and added a few sequins.
Happy Thursday!
