Hi! It's Carly here for #throwbackthursday!
Foiling is one of my favorite trends! I love all the shimmer and shine! And I love that it doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon! I've been wanting to expand my foiling skills by learning how to use the Creative Expressions Cosmic Shimmer Gilding Flakes so I started by searching "cosmic shimmer flakes" in the Classroom because I remembered that Julie had written a great "how to" article about the gilding flakes last year. When I found it, I wasn't disappointed! Click the link below to read it too:
I was excited to use the flakes and I wanted to combine them with woodgrain for a fall look. Here is what I came up with:
1. I started with a 3 x 4.5 piece of Bazzill Taffy cardstock and I embossed it the Tim Holtz Woodgrain embossing folder on my Big Shot but lots of other embossing folder designs would be super cute too.
2. To my newly made piece of woodgrain paper I applied Cosmic Shimmer Flake & Glitter Glue with a Ranger Ink Blending Tool by putting a small amount of glue on my Non-Stick Craft Mat and blotting it up with the tool. I gently applied the glue to the raised area of the embossed woodgrain.
3. I let my adhesive dry for a few minutes to get a little tacky and then I gently patted on the gilding flakes. I used the Red Speckle mix but there are so many pretty mixes, you can't really go wrong. This is the super messy part because the flakes will float everywhere, make sure you don't have a fan going or any open adhesives.
4. Once I had a generous amount of flakes on my paper, I set them aside to dry for a few minutes and cleaned up a little bit. Then I used a clean square of Rubit Scrubit foam to gently scrub off the excess foil. I should have done this step on a piece of typing paper to make it easy to put the excess back into the container but I forgot and it was messy to clean up. Learn from Julie's wisdom and my mistake ;)
5. Look how cute it turned out!
6. And this technique also works great with the foil sheets!
7. To finish my card I cut a vellum strip and fishtailed the end with scissors. I stamped the hello sentiment from the Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps, Hello Gorgeous set in Stazon Jet Black. I die cut leaves with the Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies, Thankful, giving one a loose watercolor with Distress ink Spiced Marmalade and one a vibrant inking with an ink blending tool. And finally I added a little twine bow for the win!
Thanks so much for joining me, Happy Thursday!
