Hi! Carly here for #throwbackthursday!
We are having a super fun overstock sale this week and some of my favorite stencils are included in the sale so I thought it would be fun to "show them off". Plus I've been really wanting to play with some embossing paste and Perfect Pearls.
I started my embossing paste adventure by searching "embossing paste" in The Classroom and I found this awesome newsletter article by Miss Julie Ebersole:
Texture & Dimension With Embossing Paste
If you haven't seen Julie's article yet, make sure to check it out. After I did, I was super excited to get started and feeling pretty darn knowledgeable! Thanks Miss Julie! I played around a lot (check out some of my "testers" at the end) and here's what I came up with:
1. I used my current favorite stencil from the Studio Calico Brighton Pier Masks set. I love the little scallops! And this set is currently in the overstock sale until Friday! Thanks to Julie's awesome video, I knew how best to tape my stencil down. I used Micropore tape to secure my stencil to my non-stick craft sheet, in a clockwise manner. Washi tape would work nicely too.
2. With a palette knife, I spread a generous amount of black paste over the stencil.
3. Then I used the side of the palette knife to remove the excess paste and put it back into the jar. When I was done with the palette knife, I put it in a container of soapy water (another super helpful tip from Miss Julie). And I wiped off the edge of the paste jar before securing the lid (it's hard to open when there is dried paste on the edge, ask me how I know...lol).
4. I carefully removed the Micropore tape, in a counterclockwise fashion. Using the last piece as a hinge to keep my stencil from messing up my wet paste. Then i tossed my stencil in the soapy water.
5. To the wet paste I applied Perfect Pearls by dipping cotton swabs in the powder and tapping it over the wet paste. I used Mandarin, Sour Apple and Biscotti (the pictures only shows the application of Mandarin).
6. After the paste was covered to my liking with Perfect Pearls, I flipped my card to shake off the excess powder. Some excess was still left but I set it aside to dry overnight (a few hours would suffice).
7. Once dry I used a soft paint brush to brush the rest of the excess powder off. Then I used a white eraser to erase the extra powder from places I didn't want any shimmer.
9. Once my background was done I created my own Perfect Pearls mist in a Mini Mister. I started with a big pinch of Perfect Pearls Heirloom Gold, a dropper full of Spiced Marmalade Distress Reinker and water (don't fill to the top, you need room to shake).
10. With my new custom shimmer spray, I sprayed some Solar White cardstock. Once dry, I stamped my pumpkins from the Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps, Got Candy? set and die cut with the coordinating set.
11. I finished my card with a sentiment from the Got Candy? set. And the lighting doesn't really do the background or the pumpkins justice, they are shim-mer-y!
