I needed to make a quick stack of thank-you notes and, as always, I turn to my favorite: the one-layer card.
Sidebar: I s'pose everybody's definition of "one-layer" will vary, but for me, it usually means there aren't "layers" or matted layers on the design. I might die cut an image and pop it up for a little dimension, but it's really hard for me to consider something like that as an actual "layer", so I'm stickin' with that as still being a single-layer card. *hair flip*
I didn't actually die cut anything or pop up anything whatsoever on this particular set of cards, but I'm just sayin'... *wink*
I could have stamped and bled the images off the edges of the note cards, but instead I masked off about a 1/4" border with washi tape. Yes, I eye-balled. If you have time to measure and mark, by all means, go for it! It's one of those things I've done soooooo many times over the last 20+ years, that I can eyeball it fairly easily at this point. Okay, okay, I will admit that using a striped washi tape from my stash helped me apply it straightly, too. *cheeky grin*
This very simple technique works with just about any kind of image, solid or detailed and, aside from the masking, the key is to cluster the images in such a way that it helps create that definitive edge. A thought-out color scheme can also really make this kind of design pop... I happen to be a wretch when it comes to color, so I snagged one of the color combos I have pinned on my Pinterest board to help me out. Pinterest for the win! *fist pump*
As I mention in the video, it can help to stamp your sentiment first, then build around from there; start with your largest images first, stamping in odd numbers (3 is usually my starting point), and just continue to fill in with subsequently smaller images until you're happy.
Pull away the tape, and you've got masking magic--it looks like there's more than one layer! :)
