Good Wednesday morning and welcome to the CLASSroom. Have you had an opportunity to play with any of Susan Tierney Cockburn’s new flower sets by Elizabeth Craft Designs? Susan created a new floral line to fit perfectly on card fronts. One of my favorites is the daffodils in the Garden Patch 1 3/8 inch and Mini Daffodils set. My tutorial today is focused on forming the petals and leaves and assembling them to create a natural looking flower.
Cut the flower and leaf pieces and form them using the stylus and molding pad from Susan’s Garden Tool Kit.
Lay the petals and leaves face down and push down lightly with the stylus.
Lay the corona(flower cup) face down and push down while moving the stylus in a circular motion to form a cup.
Apply Crafter’s Pick glue to the tip of each petal and attach to the flower base. This glue dries more slowly than the glossy accents that I usually use but it dries perfectly clear.
Use the tweezers to handle the petal and the leaf tool to hold the petal in place on the base.
There are three larger petals and three smaller ones. I alternated attaching them to the base for a natural look. Set this aside to dry.
Hold the right side of the flower cup center with the tweezers and lightly roll the left side around to meet it.
Apply glue to the right edge with a toothpick.
Roll the left side over and attach to the right and then hold in place with the tweezers until dry enough to remain attached.
Use the same steps to form the stamen.
By now the flower base and petals will be dry and secure. Lay on the molding pad and push in lightly with the small stylus tip of the leaf tool. This will draw the petals back up for a more natural shape.
Apply glue to the bottom of the corona and delicately place it in the center of the petals. Gently hold in place for a minute to secure.
Apply glue to the stamen and gently place inside the the corona and hold in place until secure.
Apply glue to the leaves and attach to the bottom of the flower.
Here’s a closer view of the three daffodils that I made for my finished project.
I added dimension to my project with the white frames made using the My Favorite Things Rectangle Frames, and the Impression Obsession Leafy Branch while still allowing the daffodils to be the main focal point. This floral card design could be used for so many different occasions.
I appreciate you coming by today and I hope you have been inspired to create a dimensional floral project of your own.
