I've been loving die cuts these days and it seems that they just keep getting better and better. The other day when creating I decided to pull out some new dies that I just couldn't resist ordering and have some creative fun.
This Fly Free card is what I came up with. Die cutting is a fun technique and it can be as challenging or as simple as you wish. Today's die cutting is really simple because the beautiful dies do all the work.
I love all things sewing and stitching. If you've seen my designs before you probably know that. I've done hand stitching and machine stitching, stamped stitches and even tried faux stitching techniques. I have to say that I think these sweet dies are going to give my sewing machine a run for its money! So easy to die cut the stitching right into the die cut in one step and it's a beautiful clean crisp stitched look. I'm hooked! Especially when all the shapes nest together perfectly.
My first step was to cut out a few layers to mat my card design using the My Favorite Things Die-namics, STAX Stitched Rectangle. I used Solar White and Desert cardstock and then decided to try die cutting a dotted acetate sheet for a fun layer. Acetate can be a little trickier to die cut and I used a metal shim to get a crisper cut. Run through the die cut machine a couple times to ensure a good clean cut.
Next die set I pulled out was the My Favorite Things Die-namics, Accent It - Feathers and Arrows. It's not particularly a new release and I've had it for awhile but I've been inching to open the package and try it out. I love all the beautiful die cut feathers. While I didn't use all them in my final design, I love die-cutting extras while I have a die out to make creating at a later time a breeze. An easy way to get different looks from the same die is to switch out the material that you are die cutting. Here I've used patterned paper, gold glitter paper and cork to add interest.
Before moving on, I just HAVE to mention the GORGEOUS prints in the new Maggie Holmes Confetti Paper 6x6 pad. Stunning and they are all different! No repeats! I'm very tempted to order an extra pad just so I won't run out of my favorites. There are so many.
Once the feathers have been adhered, some with wet adhesive and the top ones with dimensional foam squares, I move onto finishing the design with embellishments.
The Jute Twine is just wrapped into a circle lasso style and knotted.
To create the pin, I took a Maya Road Kraft Flag Pin and covered it with gold striped washi tape, then trimmed away the excess.
To add in the sentiment I pulled out this fun sticker book of words from Tim Holtz. It's called Big Chat and the words are fun to mix and match. They come in both black with white text and vice versa and are perfect for card sentiments, journaling and mixed media projects.
The card was then finished off with some sequins, one of my new favorite trends as well. They were adhered with Glossy Accents.
I hope you enjoyed this peek at some fun new products and trends and that it inspires you to find some time to create! Thanks for joining me today in the CLASSroom!
