I am thrilled to be here today in the CLASSroom to share my Christmas card project with you. Like many of you, I was insanely excited when I saw the collection of stamps and dies recently added to the Essentials by Ellen product line. Julie Ebersole & Ellen really hit the ball out of the park with them, and I have really loved experimenting with many pieces of the collection.
Today it is my pleasure to share a Christmas card project with you. In designing the card, I wanted to concentrate on 3 things; watercolor, glitz and gold. Watercolor techniques have been a very popular trend in paper crafting for the past few years, and I thought that the mottled effects and imperfect shading that we can easily achieve when using watercolors would lend an organic feel to my card. Glitz and gold are also strong trends right now, so those two things make an appearance and play off the watercolor technique nicely. I especially like that the shade of gold which I used in this card does not have a strong yellow base. Both the glitter and the foil paper have more of a taupe undertone to the gold, so it is a bit more sophisticated and subtle than a brash, harsh gold.
My first love in paper crafting has always been patterned paper, so on this card the background is made up of paper from the Basic Grey Evergreen 6x6 paper pad. This pad combines traditional Christmas colors with some fun non-traditional colors, like the aqua and taupe that I used on my card.
