Good Wednesday morning and welcome o the CLASSroom. Have you fallen in love with Julie’s designs in the new Essentials by Ellen sets? I sure have. I especially love the die cut sentiments. My project today was made using the Merry and Bright die and stamp sets, the Prize Stag die and the Impression Obsession Border Duo 2 set. I wanted to create a card that allows the images and sentiment to brightly pop against an all white background. This is my tribute to Julie’s wonderful and creative clean and simple style. She is definitely the queen of “less is more”.
Apply ink to the holly stamp with a crushed olive marker, stamp on white cardstock and hand cut a couple with scissors.
Punch a few 1/8” circles and attach them to the holly with glossy accents. Hint: Using your paper piercer to pick up tiny pieces makes placement really easy.
Place the decorative border and cardstock on the magnetic platform and cut. I love how the platform holds the die perfectly in place.
Attach the red and white border to the card base with mounting tape.
I want to share a new trick I learned from Mitra Friant, owner of Impression Obsession. You may already be familiar with Soowang double stick tape but I had never heard of it. I know! I must keep my head in a bushel basket. LOL! Mitra showed me how to roll the tape and use it to pop up tiny thin pieces of die cut.
Attach a piece of tape to the work surface.
Roll the tape into a thin strip with your fingers.
Cut tiny pieces with scissors.
Grab the piece with tweezers and apply it to the back of the sentiment.
I applied several pieces in key places.
Attach the sentiment to the card base. My tweezers are a help to attach delicate die cut pieces.
Attach the holly and berries to the sentiment with glossy accents. Using the tip of the paper piercer helps hold and secure the piece in place.
Apply mounting tape to the back of the stag and attach to the card base.
The red popped up sentiment and stag with the touches of green holly are so bright and festive against the white.
I hope you have been inspired to use some of Julie’s wonderful dies and stamps to create a clean and simple holiday project. Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you next time.
