Everyone has days where they need a little pick-me-up, don't they? I've had a few days like that lately myself. Life has it's ups and downs. It's always great to have some cards on hand to encourage others. Sending our thoughts and love through the mail is what cardmaking is all about.
Today's card design is a fun layered stencil card design. I adore stencils and I love experimenting with them. Did you know that you can layer them? I mean, if one stencil is great, why not put more together? Layering is a fun way to create an interesting design.
To start off with, I like to tape my stencil to my paper layer with some Tissue Tape. Tissue tape or washi tape is great for adhering or masking and can be easily peeled off. The tape prevents the stencil from shifting when you sponge on some ink.
Here's what the first stenciled layer looks like with the stencil removed. I've sponged on the ink in two Distess Ink colors, Tumbled Glass and Shaded Lilac. I often use a couple coordinating ink colors together when stencilling a background. I like the extra dimension and interest it gives.
Next up I used the Cloud Cover Stencil by Memory Box. You can really stencil white clouds onto white paper so I decided to go with a soft pink and peach look to get the look of clouds at dawn or sunset. As you can see, I've sponged on two colors again. This time Spun Sugar and Wild Honey.
Lastly I added a dotted layer using the Tim Holtz Bubbles Stencil.
These are the Distress Ink colors used. I don't have a step out photo for the Squeezed Lemonade Ink but I've sponged in around some areas of the outside of the card design to symbolize sunny days are on their way.
I love this beautiful Hero Arts stamp set, Remember. It's the perfect Sympathy set but also has some great sentiments for hard times. I find writing on a card to be one of the hardest things to do. I love it that these sentiments say it for me and say it so well.
To add a little embellishment to the card front, there is some hemp twine swirled across the design and held in place with dots of Glossy Accents.
