Growing up in my mother’s flower shop I always loved orchids. She always had her cooler stocked full of them for Easter and Mother’s Day to fill the corsage orders since they were so popular for these holidays. I especially love white orchids with a touch of color in the center and tried my best to create a pretty one for my project today. I Googled orchid photos and was especially inspired by the photo below.
I love creating all white cards with a pop of color. I thought the Impression Obsession Orchid would be beautiful paired with the Branch die and the Sizzix Fancy Rectangle Frame.
I die cut the pieces using white cardstock.
I turned the sections face down on my molding pad and pushed lightly with my stylus to form the petals.
Once the petals were formed from the back I turned it face up and pushed on the tips of the petals with my stylus to turn them up.
I repeated the same process with the other flower sections until they were all formed.
Once all the pieces were formed I lightly added color using magenta PanPastel and a Sofft knife and cover. I didn’t add the color before forming because I didn’t want the color to get all over the white part of the petals.
Once color was added to all the sections I began assembling the orchid.
I applied glossy accents to the edge of the three petal section.
I squeezed the two flaps together and held in place until it was securely closed.
I applied another touch of glossy accents to one of the rounded petals, pushed the tab inside the round opening and folded it back to secure in place.
I repeated the same step with the second round petal.
You can see how the tabs were folded and attached to the back of the opening.
I curled the tab of the final section inwards but pushed the side petals to roll back.
I applied glossy accents to the back of the tab to secure it in place and then pushed it into the center of the opening.
This is the finished orchid.
I applied mounting tape to the back of the frame and attached it to the card base.
I used my leaf tool and leaf pad to apply scored vein lines on the branch leaves and folded and formed them lightly with my fingers.
I attached the branches to the card base with glossy accents. You will have to forgive this awful picture but I just couldn’t get it to look any better. All white is hard to photograph.
I attached the orchid to the card base with glossy accents and held in place for a few minutes to make sure it was secure.
I love the pop of magenta against the all white background and I think the frame adds such an elegant feel to the project.
I am so happy you stopped by today and I hope you have been inspired to get your spring flower dies out to play with.
