With the popularity of stencils these days, it's always great to have many different ways to use them. While I love misting stencils and using them to mask ink and paint, I really wanted to try using them with Copic Markers for a unique look.
By using the Copic Mulitliner together with the Sketch Markers and a stencil, you can get a fun, hand-drawn effect that is full of color.
I love the new Memory Box stencils for their great detail and originality. For this project I've used the Rhapsody Stencil. It's simply stunning!
This stencil technique is really simple...all you need is patience and a few supplies you probably already have on hand.
The first step is to tape down your paper and stencil so they don't shift while you are working. I love Tissue Tape for this. It's great to have on hand as an embellishment and it also holds stencils and dies in place temporarily without damaging the paper.
Use a Copic Multiliner pen to trace around every part of the stencil. These pens are permanent in conjunction with the Copic Sketch Markers which can cause other inks to run and bleed.
Complete the entire stencil image.
Remove the stencil and you have a great black and white sketch background. It's actually pretty enough to leave as is, but I am so very ready for spring and needed a pop of color.
Begin adding in your color. I like to work with three colors and add them in bit by bit for a balanced look. The colors shown are YR04 Chrome Orange, R37 Carmine and RV55 Hollyhock.
Quick Tip: Use a light hand when adding in color. If you hold down the nib for too long the ink may bleed outside the lines.
Continue coloring until finished. It does take some time but if you enjoy coloring, it's a very relaxing process.
After putting so much work into the background, I decided to keep the rest of the card simple. The background layer is adhered with foam adhesive to pop it up. I've also punched a little partial circle out of the top right of the design to add in a sweet little chalkboard badge. A little banner is created by stamping a piece of cardstock, notching it's ends and folding it on the angle.
Thanks for joining me today in the CLASSroom! Have a creative weekend!
