Die-cutting has got to be one of the most fun and easy techniques out there. The possibilites are endless with the myriad of dies now on the market. Over the summer I've been collecting dies that caught my eye. Those ones that I just couldn't resist and had to have. I've also wanted to try out insetting some die cuts. Now that they kids are back to school, I've been back in the craft room and having some creative fun.
The My Favorite Things dies have been catching my eye and the Cute Cameras Die is too adorable for words! I decided its lovely almost square arrangement of cameras made it perfect for creating a border across my card.
It's also a perfect die for trying out inset die-cutting. Why?
- all those tiny cameras can be difficult to arrange
- the lovely graphic look of those sweet cameras go so well with an ultra-clean and crisp look
To start off, I created a border and the inset areas where the cameras will sit. I eye-balled it but if you're concerned that you might not be able to keep it straight, draw a line in pencil across your card front.
Repeatedly die cut your border until it's completely cut across.
Quick Tip: Die cut off the edges for a continuous look.
Next: Die cut the cameras from various colors of cardstock. If you use all the same kind of cardstock, such as Memory Box like I've used here, you'll get a nice clean and cohesive look.
Aren't the cameras super cute? I think I want to cut some more to create some confetti!
Adhere the front panel to a card base of the same color. Carefully adhere your cameras into the spaces left from the die cuts.
Finally... trim off the excess paper and round the corners of the card. Stamp your sentiment and voila...you are finished.
The complete card is a super clean design. I just love how it's all one smooth layer when the card is done.
I just couldn't seem to stop creating so I have one bonus card to share today. If has a very similar concept with a smooth design. The inset is super fun on this one as it comes below from the inside of the card.
I don't have step outs for this one but I'll share some close-ups and some instructions for you to try.
Instructions:
- Adhere strips of cardstock to a scrap piece of cardstock the same size as your card front. Make clean cuts and butt the edges tightly together so that it becomes almost like one flat uniform piece.
- Turn a card base inside out so that the color (I've used Bayou Blue) is in the inside of the card and the white on the outside.
- Adhere the striped panel to the WHITE card front.
- Round corners with a corner chomper.
- Open up card flat.
- Place die on card front where you wish to die cut.
- Run card and die through Big Shot. You will need to do this multiple times to ensure you cut all the layers. Remove some of the excess layers as they are cut if needed.
- Remove all excess trimmings from your die cut window.
- Die cut image again, this time from one single layer of a bold color. I've used black for the Eiffel Tower die in this project.
- Adhere die cut tower to the inside of your card, exactly lining it up with the window.
- Stamp sentiment & enjoy.
Have some fun with creative die-cutting!
Thanks for joining me today in the CLASSroom! Have a wonderful weekend!
