It feels good to be back here in the CLASSroom! Thank you for your patience as I have been away doing my best to be a good "nurse." That old adage, "One day at a time!" has been something that I have had to hang on to this summer. We still have a ways to go, but please know that I am doing my best to keep things moving forwards. I am SO very thankful to the girls who work with me and help me on a daily basis. They have been so reliable and I appreciate them so very much! Thank you Carina, Erica, Julia, Shirley, Becky, Julia and Sharon!!!
The card below is one I created well over a month ago and I just haven't had the opportunity to share the little details.
I love the beautiful petals that we are seeing everywhere and thought I would try my hand at creating one of these elegant blooms using the organza ribbon and Tattered Floral die many of you have purchased from us. I always love it when I find more purposes for the same tool!
To begin cut four layers of organza using the Tattered Florals die. To be certain to get nice clean cuts I sandwiched the ribbon between two sheets of regular copy paper. I did need to snip a few corners that wanted to hang on by a thread before proceeding.
The key to creating these aged petals is to use a small votive candle. Hold the petal using a pair of self-closing tweezers and then very carefully bring the edges to about 3-4 inches, straight above the flame. You do NOT want to catch this ribbon on fire as it will melt into a gooey ball, rather you want the heat to simply curl the edges. Turn the blossom as you work until all edges are curled.
Start with the largest petals working to the smallest size and thread each petal over a needle on to thread. Sew a couple of stitches through the entire group and knot.
Before cutting thread use the same needle and thread to add an Accoutrement button to the center of your petal grouping.
The base of the flower is one of the beautiful Memory Box Whimsy Circle die cutouts. We are trying our best to keep these dies in stock, but unfortunately the demand has been higher than our inventory and sometimes it takes "a while" to get them back in stock. Stay tuned to our Facebook Fanclub Page and I will do my best to keep you informed upon arrivals there.
Using the Be Brave stamp set I added the sentiment to the beautiful Melissa Frances paper and then embossed the beautiful bird and cage on vellum with Silver Detail embossing powder. Cross stitches hold the vellum in place at each corner.
This project was one I created for myself. Art definitely helps us when we need to be strong and yes, I had to talk to myself over and over this summer telling myself that I could do this, that I could be brave and that everything was going to be OK. AND it is OK! Perhaps things don't always go the way we want or plan, but if you do your best to be brave it definitely helps.
