I wanted to share a technique that I love using with brand new Graphic 45 products that are fabulous! For us today is the first day back to school after a delightful summer filled with hard work, beautiful days and a few balmy nights spent out at the fire pit toasting marshmallows for s'mores. I am always a little melancholy this time of year, and today is no exception. So I thought it would be fun to play with vintage images from the Graphic 45 ABC Primer stamp sets and make a card that I could get out my colored pencils and enjoy little bit of coloring. Because my kids are a little older they don't have a specific teacher anymore, but if they did, how fun would this be to send to that special person who was going to be spending the year molding my child's young mind. :o)
I started with the stamps, Walnut Stain Distress Ink, the 8" x 8" ABC Primer paper pad and the Staples Trim.
I started by stamping an image onto plain printer paper.
I then fussy cut around the outside of the image.
The image was then stamped onto the paper I had selected from the paper pad.
Lightly adhere, with re-positionable adhesive, the printer paper image that had been fussy cut out onto the image on the patterned paper as your mask. This will protect the image underneath from getting ink on it when we stamp the next image layer.
Ink up the stamp or image that you wish to use and carefully place it in the desired location.
It won't look fantastic from this vantage point, but that is the point! We wanted to make sure that the focal image was perfect!
Start to color with your favorite colored pencils, the Pitt Pastels have an excellent reputation, my image was colored with Prismacolors. I had originally intended to color with my Copics, but the image had such a nice soft feel that I thought the pencils would be a nice approach to compliment the beautiful vintage image.
When I was done, I cut a card base from the ABC Primer 8" x 8" patterned paper pad and a complimentary sheet to ground the image on.
Tie a bow and adhere to the bottom of the card.
Now hopefully I can find someone to give this little gem to! I just adore it, and this product line is fast becoming a favorite!
Happy Crafting!
