It is with much excitement that I share my first finished tag. Your enthusiasm most definitely drove me forwards today as I had so many other things to do, but the creativity part was so much more fun!
When Tim shared the use of the Rickety House in an "other than Halloween version" I was tickled pink. I had wanted to create a Christmas version as well and this was my golden opportunity - yippie!
So here we go with a "girly version." I hope you like it and see a new way of using this die.
I felt that a simple layer of cardstock would not quite be sturdy enough for the project I had in mind, so I cut out a paper version and a Craft-a-board version. The thing I LOVE about Craft-a-board is that it is slightly off white in appearance and is quite "moldable." For today's project I simply painted on a thin layer of Studio Matte Medium and adhered my paper.
I then distressed the edges of my house with Faded Jeans ink. Following Tim's directions I used a paint brush to generously add Picket Fence Distress Crackle Paint to my house and allowed it to fully dry.
Once dry I decided to add curtains to the interior of my house using some gorgeous trim. I then added the Glossy Accents and used Polar White Flower Soft for my snow.
I wanted to have a feel of wallpaper peeking through the windows. Using the reverse from my Craft-a-Board cutout I was able to trace and cut out a piece that would fit neatly under the house. Using 3D dots I adhered it behind the house.
It was another one of those "yippie" moments for me when Tim suggested using regular manila file folders this morning. Not only do file folders come in the "manila color," but they come in other colors as well!!! YEAH for red!
I stamped the snowflakes using the Snow Cap Dabber, rather than an ink pad. The fun thing about this dabber is that it gives you a more painterly, shabby feeling which is a perfect accompaniment to the Melissa Frances papers. When the paint is dry you can use an ink blending tool and a soft Distress or Adirondack color to shabby it up even more.
Rather than using an ink blending tool I decided to try and age it using my Perfect Pearls Turquoise Mist.
The doily is intended to represent the night moon. After splashing it in the mist I dried it and then used a silver dabber around the edges. Using a dabber allows for the very faintest paint application.
Next the tag was placed in the mist and dried, then placed in the mist again. I repeated this until I felt that just the right amount of blue sparkle was represented.
By placing my little round "reinforcement" on the Embossing Ink Pad and then dipping it in silver embossing powder and heating it I ended up with a very rustic looking reinforcement for the top of my tag.
To create the light post I stamped using Distress Embossing ink and silver embossing powder. It was then aged using Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
The flame was added with a Y21 Copic Marker and a glow was brought in with a Sand Prismacolor colored pencil.
Tinsel trim and small green and pink pearls are intended to bring that old-fashioned Christmas look into the piece.
I love how the paper had the perfect Santa to come peeking up out of the chimney! A few more baubles and pretty trim and we have the cutest little Rickety Christmas House!
