Masking and pennants are all the rage! You can use your masks for airbrushing, spritzing with misting sprays, paint, gesso, and ink blending tool and so much more.
Prima has added a bunch of different stencils (scroll down to the bottom of the page) to the mix and I wanted to give you the low-down on how these come packaged so that you won't be surprised as I was.
Each group of masks/stencils is held together with a rivet. I found it difficult to manipulate these stencils in their current form and so I tried several things. First I tested the rivet to see if it was threaded like a screw - nope. Next I tried to pry it open. Still no luck. This did loosen the rivet and thus made it easier to move the masks, so if you like the idea of keeping them together you may want to try this just to loosen them up a little.
So I finally ended up using my little scissors to snip off one mask right next to the rivet so that I could test how this would work.
To clean up my cut and make the edge symmetrical I used my Tonic cutter to trip the "label base."
I then used the 1/4" corner rounder on my chomper to even up my corners.
Both sides will need to be "chomped" to make them even.
To avoid movement as I sprayed I attached the stencil to my canvas with tape to hold it in place.
As you can see it is quite wet as I spray to get a deep color.
I remove the stencil very carefully to avoid dripping on my project. If you do drip, don't worry - just pretend that was the look you were going for as it is interesting as well.
To speed up the dry time I use my heat it tool.
Attach to your gift and make someone feel special with this one of a kind tag.
TIP: Use a basic brown bag and mist it with complimenting colors to create a unique gift bag. In addition you can add some color to plain tissue or packing paper with mist to brighten it up and make the gift even more fun to open.
