My 4th grade daughter is graduating from Elementary school to Intermediate and a whole new school in a few weeks, so I thought Kim Hughes' U R A Hoot stamp set would make a cute graduation card for her ... I love this sweet owl! I stamped her onto some Basic Grey Sugar Rush solid light pink paper and accented her a little with these Copic markers:
Next, I die cut a green patterned circle of more Sugar Rush paper and layered that onto a 5" orange mat I created using Martha Stewart's Punch Around The Page Set-Crown. These Punch Around The Page punch sets are a great way to make pretty-edged layers. You can refer to this post for more instructions on how to use these punches.
The secret to getting a perfectly punched border or mat with Punch Around The Page punches: you will need to start with any combination of these sizes of paper: 3.25", 5.00", 6.75", 8.50" 10.25" or 12". So you could make a photo mat that is 5" x 6.75" or a square page or card embellishment that is 3.25" square or 5" square (like I did here), etc, or edge your 12" scrapbook page!
To finish my card, I layered the punched orange mat onto dark pink (although it appears red in these photos!) Sugar Rush paper (a little over 5" square) and a 5.25" Natural White card base. I stamped the tree limb on the BACK side of the striped Sugar Rush paper, just to use the stamped lines as a cutting guide, since I wanted my tree limb to be the striped paper:
I stamped the solid graduation cap with Versamark onto the solid dark gray Sugar Rush paper and heat embossed it with Ranger's clear embossing powder & Heat It Craft tool. Then I cut it out and popped it up with foam tape:
You can also use the "leftover" punched-out pieces to decorate with:
For this birthday/celebration card, I used some lime green punched pieces leftover from another project (using the same Crown Punch Around The Page punch set) and adhered them to a 3" square bright pink card base I cut from a Memory Box Currant notecard:
I started with the corner pieces and then filled in with the straight scallops. Next, I cut a light pink piece of Sugar Rush paper with Spellbinders Big Scalloped Square Nestabilities-Lg die and stamped it with the "let's celebrate" sentiment from U R A Hoot stamp set. Using Martha Stewart's Punch & Stamp Set-Cupcake, I punched two cupcakes from two different patterns of Sugar Rush paper, cut the top off of one and layered it with foam tape to the striped base. It made for a very quick and easy little notecard!
