Now and then, it's fun to create a card that is a little more than just a card. Today's Spring Charm card features a little 2 inch square charm set in a Memory Frame. This little frame makes a sweet gift as it is easily unattached from the card. Clip it on bag, hang from a ribbon as a decor piece or thread with a ribbon to make a beautiful bookmark.
To start off this project, I airbrushed in a background for the sweet image using the Copic Airbrush System. I actually used three colors of Copic Markers, B0000, B00 & B000, to get a very subtle variation of color. Unfortunately, it doesn't show up well photographed but it is noticeable in person.
The Birds Nest Wreath by Lockhart is a gorgeous classic image that is lovely to color.
Here it is colored. The details are tiny so don't worry about shading.
The Ranger Memory Frame I used for this project is 2" square and the perfect size for mounting your image on a Twinchie. I used two of them to the get depth for the frame and adhered the image to one and a piece of coordinating patterned paper on the other.
To add a little dimension to my project, I altered a Grungeboard Butterfly. Tim Holtz Grungeboard Minis set has a great assortment of tiny pieces that would work great for this project. The butterfly is painted with Picket Fence Distress Crackle Paint and allowed to dry.
After the butterfly is dry, I sponged it with Shabby Shutters Distress Ink and adhered it to my Twinchie image.
What I think makes this project special is the shaker aspect of the frame. The Ranger Memory Capsules are a really fun way to make the frame special and to be able to include some sweet embellishments to your project.
Here's what the frame looks like all put together. To make the fun shaker frame, I added in some Spring Blooms Dew Drops by The Robin's Nest. The frame is easily clipped tightly over the capsule/twinchie sandwich. For some added movement, I clipped on a Crystal Binding Ring Dangle from 7 Gypsies.
The card base it kept simple to focus on the pretty charm. The card base is kraft cardstock from Memory Box, and the layers die cut from Neenah Classic Natural White cardstock, and papers from the Cosmo Cricket Mini Decks, Material Girl and Earth Love. Each layer has been die cut with a different sized Labels Twelve Die by Spellbinders.
To attach the frame to the card, I pierced the card and threaded through some twine to tie it on with.
To add additional stability that still allows the frame to be removed, I rolled up a couple Glue Dots and adhered them to the frame.
Here's a close-up of the final project. I hope it inspires you to add a creative charm to a project you're making.
Thanks for visiting me in the CLASSroom. Have a great weekend!
