Today’s project is a magnetic travel puzzle, and the Essentials by Ellen Craft-a-Board and the Magnetic Masking Material were the perfect combination to make it happen.
Using the Spellbinder’s 4”X6” “Puzzle Madness” Die, the puzzle was cut from the Craft-a-Board and the Magnetic Masking Material.
(The Magnetic Masking Material has a black side and a white side. Black sticks to black and white sticks to white.)
A scene was created on cardstock by masking and using several Hero Arts stamps:
Clear Design: Birds and Branches
Clear Design: Life is Not Perfect
(Also used a retired Hero Arts Stamp: Rickrack Ribbon)
The scene was then cut with the puzzle die.
Next the three different mediums (cardstock, Craft-a-Board and Magnetic Masking Material) were glued together making sure that each layer was glued exactly over the other with no overhang.
Any excess glue needs to be removed.
A sanding block was used to gently sand a few of the edges where the fit was especially tight. The sanding block was also used on the Magnetic Masking Material before applying the glue so that the glue would have a rougher surface to hold on to and thereby adhere better.
A puzzle base was made using more of the Magnetic Masking Material which was cut ¼” larger than the 4”X6” puzzle. This was adhered to a piece of Craft-a-Board which was cut ½” larger than the puzzle.
Before cutting the scene, a picture was taken and printed. It was adhered to Craft-a-board and designer paper from Cosmo Cricket’s “Garden Variety” pack was adhered to the back. This is included with the puzzle to be the guide.
Recently I purchased some pillowcases at Target that came in a small white linen bag. It was the perfect size for my puzzle. I stamped a few of the puzzle images on the bag, too.
The Essentials by Ellen Craft-a-Board and Magnetic Masking Material are such fun to play with. There are so many possibilities! Thanks for dropping by the CLASSroom today.
Happy Crafting!
