Since I love all things beach-related, I decided to take Graphic 45's wonderful new On The Boardwalk 8x8 papers and revamp an old 12" x 17" wooden serving tray I had. This is how it started out:
The black base of the tray was still in good shape and blended well with the papers I chose. I used the 8x8 pad of Boardwalk paper because that's what I had on hand, but I easily could have used the 12-inch versions. I began by laying out the papers in the pattern I wanted to cover the bottom of the tray. The 8-inch square in the middle is Coney Island and the 2.75" strips on each side of that are from High Style Holiday <those are the 12-inch versions). The grid pattern of these papers allowed for easy mixing and matching and cutting it to the correct size I needed.
I used strips of Seaside Chic on the sides and top and decoupaged the papers to the tray, using Royal Coat Satin Decoupage to adhere the papers and once that was dry, as a top coat to protect the papers. The blue "ocean waves" at the bottom are the She Sells Seashells patterned paper, die cut with Spellbinders Heirloom Scroll Border-Lg die. When the paper was still in the die, I used Ranger Broken China Distress Ink to sponge on the embossed areas showing through the die template -- I love that the swirl pattern in this die resemble waves!
To finish the tray, I hot glued seashells around the edges. I think this tray will make a great beachy accent for my hall entry table this summer or perfect to serve drinks or snacks out on the patio! Just think what all YOU already have that you could revamp with these gorgeous Graphic 45 papers!
