At CHA one morning I was coloring some so-ugly-they-are-cute Hero Arts monsters and brainstorming for creative backgrounds for them. The background that I came up with today is not exactly in my comfort zone, but I think it fills the bill!
First, I colored a little monster from Monster Fun with the Copic markers pictured below.
Next I arranged letters from the Alphabet Ransom Mask to spell "monstrous." Letters are low-tack self adhesive, so they work easily to mask for airbrushing.
Using the chisel tip of the Copic YG05 marker, along with the Copic airbrush system, I airbrushed over the letters.
Next I chose the brush tip of a Copic V09 marker to airbrush. Airbrushing with the chisel tip gives you a smoother, finer mist. Airbrushing with the brush end gives you a larger mist, like a spatter effect.
This is what it looked like when I peeled the mask letters off.
The letter spaces looked a little too clean, so I used the brush tip of a Copic YR16 to add more spatter. I like it better now.
He's a cutie! I used the "Hope you have a monster sized birthday!" sentiment from the same Monster Fun set to complete the inside of the card. Do you have a Copic Airbrush System? Pull it out and try a simple masking project! Thanks for visiting the CLASSroom today.
