We had a few people email Ellen and ask if we had any solutions that would help you display your projects with style. I came up with a ribbon garland that is quick and sure to compliment any style of decor.
So here is a quick tutorial that will show you how to get it done. This design and concept was created by me, so if you do want to share with your friends and family (and I really want you too!) please give me credit and link to this post and Ellen's shop. Thanks for your cooperation in this!
This is what the garland looks like finished, if you would like to see the image larger, just click on it.
First decide how many tags you want to display and then measure the ribbon accordingly. This is sized to the #8 tag, so there is 5" between each of the clips. So measure 5" of ribbon for each tag, and then add 6" to each end to leave room for attaching to whatever you wish to hang it from.
Next, attach the Hinge Clips by stitching with an embroidery floss that is similar to the color of ribbon you are using for your garland. My ribbon is white, so I used a white floss.
Start by coming up through the ribbon from the back through the center of the Hinge Clip and then going back into the ribbon from the front over the top of the Clip and down into the ribbon to the back side.
Cross the floss over and bring the needle through.
Cross the needle back over again and tie the knot off.
Repeat going up and back down at least three times to secure the Clip.
Tie another knot by looping the thread back through the floss and inserting the needle through the loop and then tighten. Trim floss.
Tie two bows as shown in the previous tutorial and then place where you would like it to be on the ends of the garland.
Turn the ribbon carefully over while holding the bow in place. Stitch into place.
Tie the knot off when done stitching.
Attach tags and then hang where you can show all your hard work off!
A few of the things that I learned that will make things easier for you, use a sturdy ribbon. The silks that are so gorgeous are much to fragile and don't have enough "body" when hung up. Using a ruler while measuring out the ribbon and marking each of the spots for the tags as I went cut my work in half, I didn't have to measure twice. I would also attach the tags onto the ribbon lower so that is doesn't pull the bottom under from the weight of the suspension.
So I hope that this comes in useful to you, it sure did for me!
If you do try it, I would love to see! If you can, share a link in the comments of this post so I can visit you and leave a compliment, that would be wonderful!
Happy Holidays!
