It always seems that I need last minute gift bags and so I thought I would share one of my little "quick" creations with you.
Start with a simple 9" x 12" office envelope. I purchased a whole box of white ones just for making gift bags - LOL! You could also use manila ones if you want a more "natural look. Cut the top flap off so that you have an even edge with no glue or clasp.
Then use a decorative punch to create a pretty "top" on your envelope. For this bag I used one of the Deep Edger punches, Floral Vine. I must admit that I am absolutely addicted to some of these beautiful new punches and the new "eyelet" looks are some of my favorites. Eyelet, a trend I have been predicting for some time, is being seen on so many levels right now and I am loving it! The new "doiley" stamps from Hero Arts, as well as these awesome punches, were greeted with glee - LOL!
Next score the bottom and sides an equal distance from the edge. For my gift bags today I scored one inch up from the bottom and one each from each side. Using my teflon bone folder I then folded the envelope along these score lines and creased it in back and forth. This helps make it easier to "ease" your bag into shape.
It is so very easy to create different proportion bags. The key is to measuring the distance from the bottom and sides and score the lines consistently in both of these areas. For example, if you select 1 1/2" for the bottom, then the sides should be 1 1/2" from each edge; or 2" on the bottom and 2" on each side.
Next I scored the lower corner "squares" diagonally. This score line helps me create a more perfect bottom - LOL!
I then pop out the envelope into a bag shape and create the little "ears" on the bottom of the bag.
Turn the bag over and apply adhesive to the bottom sides of these "ears" and then firmly press them back against the bottom of the bag.
To finish these off I created simple gift tags using the Eskimo Kisses Woolies together with simple diecut tags and gorgeous silk ribbon.
This little white basic can be finished in so many different ways. I look forward to sharing some of those ideas with you in the future. One can never have too many simple gift bag ideas!!! So grab those office envelopes and see what you can create ;)
