I love designing with all things pretty so I thought it would be fun to do a very lacy style card today. Using panels of lace and trim is a great way to add texture and interest to a design and they can be adhered right over your cardstock or patterned paper.
To start off a project, it's always a great idea to pull out the supplies you want to use and go from there. If you start by coloring the image it may be difficult to find papers and embellishments in your stash to match. I never would have thought to color the crown pink, purple with a lime green accent but it's bright, fun and girlie and works great with the supplies I chose.
This card was easy to put together with a Key Lime Memory Box notecard base and patterned paper from the Webster's Pages Magical Wishes 6x6 paper pad. I loved how this particular piece had the word princess on it and worked that into the design.
To apply the lace you can either stitch it or use a strong dry adhesive. I like to use my Glue Glider Pro for a good clean hold. This gorgeous trim is the new Webster's Pages Postcards from Paris/Nature's Storybook trim collection. When applying trim to a card, I always cut it just a little long and then trim the edges cleanly once they are all adhered.
A Royal Birthday is a beautiful stamp set from CHF that works well for other occasions as well. After stamping onto Neenah Classic Solar White cardstock, I die cut out my image layer with the Spellbinders Labels Six die. I chose this die as I liked how it echoed the shape of the top of the crown image. To get a nice even border effect, I left the die in place when airbrushing around the edges.
Here's the Copic colors I used...
The You Rule sentiment is fro the same set. It is colored and cut out and then adhered on top of the crown layer. To embellish the crown, after all every princess needs a little bling, I added a couple Accent Pearls.
To finish off the project, I adhered the images on dimensional foam tape over the lace and added a little bow made from twill ribbon. As a final touch, I distressed the right edge of the patterned paper with my finger giving a little peek at the other side.
Thanks for stopping by the CLASSroom! Happy creating!
