Welcome to the CLASSroom! Today I have a card and Copic coloring tutorial to share. I started with Karen Lockhart's Patio Pot English Daisy image stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and some Basic Grey Wisteria papers, along with a sheet of Sage and Dill Memory Box Cardstock and a piece of Solar White cardstock. (As always, click on a picture if you would like to see it larger.)
I started by coloring the greenery with the Copic markers pictured above. This image is a bit of a challenge in that the flowers are wispy rather than solidly outlined. That means that you have to do a bit of guessing when you are filling in the inside greenery of the plant. You can always come back and add if you missed places, so it's better to err on the side of too little greenery rather than too much.
Next I colored the blossoms with Copic Red-Violet tones.
For the pot I used Copic earthtones. I got the pot a bit dark and had to lighten it with my clear blender pen.
I worked on the little spade next, using the same earthtones that I had used in the pot for the handle, and using toner grays for the spade.
The shadows were next. Since I had used toner grays for the spade, I chose warm grays for the shadows in order to help set them apart from the spade. Typically shadows are cool, but since I plan to have a warm glow around the flowers, and since my planter is also warm, I am using warmer grays for the shadows. Notice that the shadow of the spade handle does not touch the spade. I assumed that the spade handle was raised off of the surface because of its angle compared to the planter, and I treated its shadow accordingly.
Finally I added the flower centers and the pale yellow glow around the plant. The unlabeled marker on the extreme left is filled with a mixture of half blender fluid and half pale yellow ink. (I can't remember if I used Y21 or YR31--one of the two.) I chose a pale yellow glow because the flowers are predominately red-violet, and yellow as a contrasting color makes the flowers show up better.
I used some Spica glitter pens to add a little sparkle here and there: mint, melon, buttermilk, and lilac. A bit of Antique Linen Distress ink and sewing took care of my background, along with some Paris Dewdrops. Ribbon is from my stash, and papers are Basic Grey Wisteria .
