I have a simple card and envelope to share with you today; ever since I saw the bare oak image on the front of the Memory Box Sugardrop papers, I've wanted to play with the coordinating Memory Box Bare Oak stamp. Because the patterned paper uses an enlarged, cropped version of the tree, I chose to stamp the tree in Pearlescent Chocolate Brilliance ink on an Arturo Soft White single card and use a Spellbinders Classic Rectangle Nestability to crop my tree in a similar fashion. I then used watercolors to dab on some blossoms and leaves, again because of the tree in the patterned paper, and stamped the "just a note" sentiment from the Mona Lisa Moments Script Essential Expressions set.
After matting my tree fragment with Memory Box Peony and Mocha cardstock and lightly sanding the mat edges, I ran a length of 5/8" rose grosgrain ribbon across the bottom of my card, sewing the left edge to hold it in place behind the patterned paper. I turned the ribbon under, leaving a simple loop on the right edge and finished it with a small brown button.
Next, I created a coordinating envelope. I used the same Spellbinders Plain Rectangle Nestability to cut a mask for my kraft envelope from Eclipse Tape, and then I stamped the tree image on the envelope with approximately the same amount of the tree showing as I had showing on the card front. I also stamped the "just a note" sentiment in the bottom right corner of my rectangle.
Before removing the mask, I sponged some Antique Linen Distress ink around the edges of the tree opening to define that opening, and then painted leaves and blossoms. The card base is Memory Box Mocha cardstock. Although the card and envelope are very simple, I think that they are effective because of the repetition principle--finding an image that you like, and repeating it.
