With the new Lockhart release Karen added the FABULOUS Buttermilk Hen. I instantly loved the look and thought what a cute pair she would make with the rooster. Well unfortunately Karen and I got a good laugh out of it when we realized that they could only follow each other around on cards - LOL! BUT there is always a solution if you need to reverse your stamped images - that solution is a Mirror It stamp!
The Mirror It stamp comes in a number of different sizes; we carry the Medium and Large sizes being they are the most commonly needed. In looking at this completed card I giggled with the girls here at work and we decided that it was unfair that male birds always get to be more "colorful", so instead of being colorful she just need a little bling in the form of glitter pens to give her a little more glam. In hindsight I might have added a little of the purple/blue combo to her wings as well, but I think that this little pair is so cute and the inside sentiment could read - "just waiting for you."
So here we have the original pair - in this format you could always stamp the rooster behind the hen and use the sentiment, "I'd follow you anywhere!" or" hurry it up girlfriend" - LOL!
I tested a number of different inks using this technique - Palette, Archival, Adirondack and Memento. They all worked just fine. The key was to having my paper ready to transfer the image to. Taking the time to snap the picture did affect the outcome of this first image, but when I inked the stamp, stamped on the mirror image and then immediately transferred the ink to my paper I ended up with an image as shown below.
As you can see the mirrored image is slightly lighter than the hen, which was stamped directly on my paper.
But once you color the image there is no noticable difference between the two. Once again I first colored my image with my light colored Copics using a very similar method to my Stamp of the Month post. The Copics "sink" the color in to the paper.
I then added the highlights to this image using Prismacolor color pencils. The combination of these two mediums adds so much more texture to my image. It makes the image appear more "feathery." I added the ground beneath my couple using W1, my custom light Y21 and a colorless blender.
Being the image was still too "clean" looking I added masks to the images and lightly airbrushed the background with my custom lightened Y21 and then stamped over the top with the Distress Grid Scrapblock. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite Scrapblocks. The size and functionality of it are SO diverse!
A little felt, velvet, a new Pastel Collage flower, combined with a white flower that I colored once again with my Y21 Copic marker, and a button sewed on with embroidery floss and the texture of this card is scrumptious. The paper is from the Glitterati collection. I can't get enough of these new papers - Dave has truly hit a home run with these collections - they are so incredibly different and versatile.
So next time you have an image that just needs to be turned over, don't "chicken" out - just Mirror It. LOL! Yep, I'm writing this on Friday night and I'm so very tired - so guess what that means - GOOFY Ellen humor! Help us all Ü Thanks for stopping by and I wish you a wonderful weekend!!!
